I have CMT (charcot-marie-tooth), also a muscular disease. My case is very mild as well. I'm 36.

I didn't find out until I was 15, but I played sports. I ran track and played basketball. I wasn't very good, but my disease is why. I didn't know that at the time.

I would say try a sport that isn't too strenuous. Something like swimming (which is doctor recommended for most muscular diseases), baseball or anything he's capable of doing.

Keep in mind the psychological aspects of trying harder than the others and not doing as well as this is possible. Then again, only you know his abilities.

He should be allowed to do everything he's able to do, for as long as he's able to do it. Unfortunately you don't know what's down the road for him, and it would be tragic to keep him from running and playing while he's able to do so. As long as his doctor is okay with it, he needs to be as close to normal as possible for as long as he can.

Now I am no expert here but I think that is a question you should be asking his doctor!
