No...you cannot cook avocadoes. You don't want avocadoes that are completely mushy...they just need to give a little. To ripen quicker place them in a brown paper bag with a slice of apple sealed up for a couple of days. Otherwise, to get the skin off of peppers you will need to blister the skin either on a grill or in the oven under a broiler. Then take the peppers after you have blistered the skin while they are still hot and place in a clear bowl with Saran wrap over the top and let them steam for about 20 minutes. After that the skin should be able to be rubbed off.

A ripe avocado is slightly soft to the touch. If you buy one that is hard you can speed the ripening by putting it into a brown paper bag. To USE the avocado (and this is probably what you mean by soft or cooking), you slice it in half, length-wise, remove the pit, then scoop out the flesh.

peppers: if you have a gas stove top it's real easy. Set the pepper on a low flame. Once it's black turn it to another side of the pepper. Once covered in black. Let cool slightly then scrape off the blackened skin.

If you don't have a gas stove top you can do this on a grill OR you can cut up the peppers, put them skin up on a baking sheet and broil until blackened.

Huh...I've never had 'cooked' avacado. And I've never had the need to skin a pepper.
