You are asking two questions: What is the extrinsic meaning of life, that is, why does it exist, and the intrisic meaning of life, that is, what should I do with it.
Life is the combined random and not so random effects of chemistry and natural selection. It is purposeless, it has no extrinsic meaning.
We do, however, have the ability to ascribe meaning to it ourselves. For example, I find meaning in the pursuit of knowledge, so this is the intrinsic meaning I ascribe to my life.

Sorry if I have to be the harbinger of bad news, but there is no such thing as a meaning of live.
Humans are meant to eat, drink and have offspring, just like any other being, only our instinctive longing for structure and meaning leads us to believe otherwise.

If life has one deep underlying meaning, it is that when small bodies work together, they can cause grand and exponentially complex and exciting effects. The lesson to be learned is that we should be willing to engage in our world rather than seeking to be separate from it, for only then can it truly grow and develop.

The original answer, given by the super computer Deep Thought, was 42.
However, the latest super computer is still working it out. Just look out for the Vogons...

Good question.
Just as a stapler, a hammer, and a car has a purpose, we need to know our purpose (or the meaning of our life) to know what to do.
As a Catholic Christian, I would answer straight from the catechism, which is to "Know, love and serve God in this world and be with Him in the next." ^_^

Ecclesiastes 12:13 says: "The conclusion of the matter, everything having been heard, is: Fear the [true] God and keep his commandments. For this is the whole [obligation] of man."

It is a test to see who would believe in God and serve him and do good things, and who will defy him and get distracted by other things eg material goods.
