So in conclusion Mr Benevolent wants you to stone your own children.

Yes, isn't it convenient how they pick and choose which parts of the bible they want to take a stand on. They probably eat shellfish, too.

Hypocrites.

If you're going to ignore one part, you must ignore all of it. Conversely, if you're going to thump and rail about one part, you must uphold all of it.

YES, A TRUE FUNDAMENTALIST COULD SEE IT LIKE THAT. That is why our country is so screwed up. We will never know what those writers & story tellers were trying to say with their words. YOU don't know what their words were meant to convey either! Perhaps those people wanted to have their sons killed BEFORE they were taken as prisoners & had to endure being tortured. You are taking it OUT OF CONTEXT & losing the original meaning through poor translations & skewed definitions of the words of that time (era). Another definition is the laying on of hands & stones were used to cover a persons body & actually drive out a spirit that had taken over & caused them to become drunkards, etc. Stoning wasn't always the death of a person. It was the death of what was in them. Also known as a representaion.

Taken out of context, many bible verses are misunderstood.
Especially by those seeking to find all of the parts of the Bible they don' t like. By the way, your cite could have been shortened to Deuteronomy 21:18-21.

In this day age, we put incorrigible children in mental hospitals. Same concept though, we put them away.

Where would you have suggested they do with a child who cannot be tolerated? They were in the desert for goodness sake, were they to build a jail? lol they did what they had to do.

Perhaps you don't understand that in that period, one idiot could literally kill the entire group out in the desert.

Thank God he sent Jesus Christ to clarify his love for children! Your ID is bashing Jesus, who on many occassion (much more than are documented in the bible, I'm sure) expressed his love for children - contradicting the claim in your question.

There are certainly things stated in the bible that, when taken out of context (as you did above), seem cruel. If you read the rest of the bible, I think you'd be challenged to see cruelty for all the love that is written for you.

Obviously this is in reference to grown children. Best to observe the warning "Honor thy father and thy mother that thy days be long on the earth"
