Actually, here is the headline:

Generic drugmaker Perrigo Co. is recalling 11 million bottles of over-the-counter, store-brand acetaminophen caplets after finding metal fragments in some batches, U.S. health officials said on Thursday.

Perrigo discovered the problem after finding some manufacturing equipment was wearing down prematurely, the FDA said. The company passed 70 million caplets through a metal detector and found about 200 contained metal fragments ranging in size from "microdots" to "portions of wire 8 millimeters in length," the FDA added.

It wasn't aspirin. It was generic acetaminophen (Tylenol).

The machines used to form the pills were very old and started to break down. Some of the metal was brittle, broke off, and got molded into the pills. Some of the pieces were tiny and wouldn't hurt anything, but some were very long, even 1/3 of an inch. A piece that long could injure your throat, stomach, or intestines, so they had to be recalled.

They didn't.

The recall was on acetamenophine, specifically acetaminophen manufactured by the company Perrigo as "generic" medication for those stores.

The recall was due to metal flakes found during quality control checks made by the company. The recall was voluntary and there have not yet been any reports of illness due to the contamination.

for small metal "particles" in the mix. As no medications are allowed to be made with metal, it begs a very serious question for which we probably won't ever get the answer.
