The quarter in quarter-to-(whatever) refers to a quarter of an hour, or 15 minutes, so if you were trying to express the time as 8:45, you would say Quarter to nine or Eight Forty-Five.

Well, no, not Paris Hilton. Thanks. I would like to swap lives with... This is harder than I thought. What I really need is a vacation. I would like two days just for me, to do whatever I want when I want. Like use the bathroom without having to announce that I'm using the bathroom. I'm a stay-home-mom. I'd also like to complete something, anything, from start to finish, like put the dishes away or weed a six foot square bit of yard. Who has a life like that? Someone retired? I don't know. It seems no one has complete freedom. So, I think I'll trade places with someone who happens to be on vacation or sabbatical. What would they do then? Scrape the marsh mellow cream off my coffee table? That would be nice.
