Two days ago I adopted a new cat, 2 year old female orange tabby. Since I've had her she has not went to the bathroom. There have been tracks where she walked in the litter but no go. Suggestions???

I've checked the bedroom she's living in and find no accidents. She was adopted from a friend, litter box & litter came with her, along with her food which she doesn't seem to want either.

Give her time, she knows what to do where, she's just nervous and has a touch of "shy bladder", just make sure she has plenty of water, nature will take care of the rest. P.s. Thanks for adopting and good luck.

She might be holding it or hasn't eaten much. 2 days isn't very long for a cat if she's tramatized by the move to your home.

Do you know if she' eaten? My new little kitten (well, she's 1 1/2 now) will stare at her food and not eat. If I warm it a little tiny bit, careful - (and I mean no more than 5 or 6 SECONDS), in the microwave, and then hold it out to her on my hand, she'll gobble it up!

Talking to her is a good idea but more to comfort her.

It might be a good idea to keep her in one room for a few days. Keep the sand box far away from the food. Pets do not like to poop or pee by their sand box etc...

Where does she stay, where is the food and where is the sand box? What type of filler? Does it have an odor?

If it goes on a few more days I would take her to the vet. Good luck.

It was over 16 years ago, but I think that happened with a cat I adopted. I don't think she ate or drank for the first few days, and in fact she hid somewhere. I don't recall whether she used the box, but chances are if she wasn't eating or drinking, she didn't use it.

I'd be less worried about the box than about not eating. Going without food for more than 24 hours can be quite dangerous for cats. Try to tempt it out with some nice stinky canned food.

I think if you don't see anything, particularly eating, in the next day, you might want to swing by the vet.

is the box new? cause my cat won't go in a box that other cats have gone in... otherwise take her hand and scrape the litter, like a mom would show her kitten. ya know? or just feed her a lot, keep an eye on her and have patience, sometimes they might just be "box shy"
ha ha good luck.

That's not unusual, my cat does that everytime I completely change out the litter in the box. And she eats and drinks normally, so I think she is just holding it.

oh...she's going all right!!........won't be long and you'll know where she's going. Is she home alone all day? If so...try shutting her in one room..where the liter box is at....
Sorry to say it..but usually once they start going potty in the house...they won't stop. There may be a reason she was up for adoption......The only other suggestion is...take her to the vet have her checked for a UTI....this often makes cats pee outside their liter box...Best of luck to ya!!

Read this: actually talking to you cat will work, and showing him/her and setting its butt down and saying "Whenever you need to go, go right here: its called litter!"
