half of America was awake the whole time waiting for it to hit rock bottom so the other half would wake up.

I think we're wiping the sleep out of our eyes. Now we need to take a shower, take our vitamins and face the new day. But false patriotism and xenophobia--man, I hope that's behind us!

Well, until someone can explain why a very pro-Bush, pro-war on terrorism Joe Lieberman got re-elected over a very anti-Bush, anti-war, anti-capitalism, anti-American Ned Lamont, I don't think we can rush to judgement about the election meaning anything specific, other than the media still has enough power to make America forget the truth.
Oh, yeah. Majority rules and all that. Democrats make up the majority so whatever they say is "american" and anything else is not, eh. Well, the truth is we are not and have never been a "democracy". We're a republic. We're about "freedom", and democrats aren't, and for the most part, neither are republicans. Taxes? Taxes are unamerican. You needed an amendment to the Constitution to even have them, don't tell me they are what the Founders intended. War on Drugs? Who among the two major parties is for abolishing that? It's not in the Constitution that the federal government can tell me what I can put in my body for the fun of it, how is the DEA American?
Freedom is American. Neither Democrats nor Republicans know beans about it.

Special Ed need some Ed. The president can't intoduce bills. As for your "false patriotism", I quote Thoms Jeffeson "Patriotism is the love of ones county, not love of ones government." Also "It is the duty of every citizen to dis-trust the government on every level."

Turboweegie's answer is really sad...
I think this is exactly how deep our denial of what America is really about goes.
So yes on false patriotism.
If Democrats make up 65% of the country then who's calling who "unamerican"?

I don't know. What I can tell you, is that now we may have achieved some balance. Bush will no longer have what he wants when he want it and there should be a process of debate and compromise.
