First, I'm so sorry for you. Secondly, of course get a new kitty but wait just a while to let the grief subside. Here's the absolutely wonderful thing about animals we love: the cat that died was unique and had its own personality and there will never, ever be a cat like that again. The next one you get will also be unique and have its own lovable quirks, likes, and dislikes. So you get to remember all of your precious animals for their special qualities. To answer again, time will diminish the sorrow and you will be very receptive to a new pet who will enhance your life. Your little cat that died is special and not repeatable and you will have a new one someday who is special also. Love and hugs.

I lost my sweet 16 year old cat Gracie a year ago and I just didn't think I'd ever want another cat. Then 4 months later I saw an add with a cat named Mia's picture saying that they were looking for a home for her. I called and I got her. I love Mia very much she hasn't replaced Gracie but she has filled an empty void in my life. So to answer your question yes by all means get a new cat when you are ready.

Only you can decide, but I'll tell you what I did.
My cat of 16 years died two years ago. I was very sad and actually cried for several days. The vet had called me at work, and when we got home that night, my husband and I were talking, and he asked if I wanted to get another one right away.
I had to laugh, and said yes! I dragged him out to the Human Society that same night. It ended up taking us a while to find the right one, and we also needed the extra time to really clean the carpet because Martha had fleas.
But I found that having another kitty to love right away made me happy, and I didn't feel like I was "cheating" on dearly departed Martha.
Funny - just like JenJen, I kept thinking I saw Martha out of the corner of my eye. It was so weird.

If you like cats and can care for them and keep them inside, I would say yes. I lost my 17 year old calico cat and then got a Maine Coon which I just love. They are so sweet and just love to sit beside you all the time. But, please keep them in the house as so much can happen to them outside. They don't deserve being picked up on the road or eaten by a wild animal. I now have 2 cats, a lot of work but worth it.

I'm so sorry for your loss, I had to take a day off work when my previous cat died, I was such a wreck. I think you should get another, there are so many animals out there that need homes, and you already know how to care for one.
I wasn't going to get another cat since my boyfriend was allergic to them, but I a hard-luck story came along and I changed my mind. Plus, before I got my current cat, I kept seeing 'movement' in my peripheral vision like my cat was walking by. Obviously, there wasn't anything there, but it was freaking me out. Have fun finding your new best friend.

Only when you feel you are ready. Don't let anyone pressure you into it if you haven't properly grieved for the one you lost. I let my husband convince me I was ready for a new kitten shortly after my old man cat died. I fell in love with her, she got sick and I had to have the vet put her down. Again, I was grief stricken. I have just recently gotten another cat and not before I allowed myself time to properly get over my loss.

You should get a new one if you really like cats. Never forget about your old cat, though.

Well if you feel that you need anothe rone to replace the void then you should. Don't get one that look like your old one though, that would be like transferring your emotions to another cat. Name it something completely different too. Not like Fluffy2 or something.
