i just dyed my hair black yesterday, and i don't really like the look. i was wondering is there any way to make my hair fade faster without damaging it? so that i can fade it out and dye it something else?

black does not usually fade....if you want it lighter, get some medium brown highlights (LEAST DAMAGING OPTION). Bleaching all the hair will damamge it and it will be uneven anyway, if you want to do that you need to go to a stylist

and if people write things like, wash it more, or lemon juice, do not try it...both will dry out your hair and lemon juice can make it brittle.....and NEITHER WILL LIGHTEN DYED BLACK HAIR

Try Prell shampoo. It's the super duper clarifying stuff that a lot of swimmers I know use to get the chlorine and junk out of their hair. Don't shampoo again until you get Prell, because the more you wash, the more the dye sets. If you can do it within a day or two, you might have luck. Your best bet is to use the Prell, leave it in for an hour or two, and then rinse. Be sure to condition the heck out of it, because it'll be very dry after you do this. You can find it at Walmart or whatever. You can't dye over black.

Do NOT use dimestore color stripper. Stripping black hair looks like crap, and you'll be paying a lot at a salon to have it look even halfway decent.

Bleach will do the trick too, but only use that as a last resort and only get it done by a pro.

I change my hair color really often... we're talking almost bi- monthly. So I understand wanting to change a color. Black is obviously a color that is difficult to dye over, it will only tint your hair not change it. When I have wanted to change my hair from black I go to Sally Beauty supply and get a color remover (L'Oreal's Color Zap works well) It will turn your hair orange so you will need to apply another dye... unless you want orange hair. For instance a brown and I would recommend adding a color corrector to the dye that you use (red/gold corrector 1 small tube) that way the brown does not pull reds... again unless you want red tones. You may be thinking this seems like a lot to do to my hair... and truthfully it is, it is damaging. Which is why I recommend and swear by L'Oreal's product Natures Therapy for Damaged Hair... The shampoo and conditioner work wonders! Your hair will be unbelievably silky and soft! I swear by this routine as I change my hair color often and it is still in good condition... the girl that cuts my hair can't believe how healthy it is despite all the abuse my hair takes!

Black usually does not fade out. The only way to get it out is to use hair color remover to strip the color out. This can be very damaging though. Your other option is to just let it grow out or get some highlights, not blonde though. If your natural hair color is a darker brown, the black won't look to bad growing out. If your hair is a lighter color you might have to start cutting it. Get more opinions from a color expert though, someone that can actually see your hair. I'm sure something can be done. Good luck

good luck with that. i use to dye my hair black all the time and it would just take forever to want to redye it to a lighter color. you can't really go about a way without damaging your hair. if you want a light look, you have to strip the color first which will damage the hair and then you can put a coating on. although your hair will damage, if you continue to put conditioner on everyday and whatnot then it'll be fine within a couple weeks. and yes, it is tempting to go all black again, but i try keeping my natural color and then doing highlights of whatever color so that i don't make a mistake of hating my hair again~!

You could go out in the sun a lot.....Just make sure you dont try to lighten it yourself..you will severely damage you hair..it will become dry and break off everywhere. If you really hate it and want to change it fast. Go to a salon, they can safely make the transition back to your original haircolor. Oh and next time you want to try a new look go for a temporary dye so you wont be in a fix like this.

i did the same thing last year for Halloween, i tried to dye over it with lighter colors, even washed it a million times with many different products. i finally just bought hair bleach and it worked. once you dye your hair it gets damaged. black doesn't fade fast. i agree with the hairstylist though. just go to a salon and have it professionally lightened.

Black is the hardest color to dye over and it is almost impossible to do without bleaching. Try washing your hair with Prell (if you can find it) or use dishwashing liquid and a good conditioner. Also use a shampoo made for swimmer's or a clarifying shampoo.

I`m looking for the same answer. I don`t like mine either. I`ve tryed to dye it back by using blonde but that didn`t seem to do anything at all but give me more split ends. I called a salon and they said they could strip it but it would be $85. Your best bet would be to call a salon in your area and get their suggestions on it. Hope it helped.
