Could the F-22 do a tailslide like the SU-27 can because it has thrust-vectoring?

It could, but it's only a show manoeuvre.

When they do the tail slide they are zeroing out their kinetic energy, that minimizes the places they can get to in the next few seconds and makes them an easy kill.

Dogfights are ultimately an energy war with a lot of skill thrown in, if you can manoeuvre better then you win, but all things being equal it's the aircraft that maintains energy that gets to fly home.

Topguntony and Bitburger, I understand where you are coming from and in a US/Russian encounter I have no doubt that the US pilot would win; but not because of 'superior missile technology', more down to the lack of flying hours the Russians get, due to budgetary considerations.

TBH Russian guided weapons are every bit as good (if not better) as their western counterparts. Level the playing field in terms of pilot skills etc, and the story could be very different - do I need to mention how comprehensively the Indian AF waxed the US F-15s at Cope India, and they weren't even using the thrust vectored model.

Yes it could, but the Russians are the experts on this.

After the 'merge' the Su-27 would take the F-22.

You don't need to worry about energy conservation after you've blasted the other guy.

The Su-27 is a remarkable aircraft, but it doesn't have anything near the avionics/weapons package that the F22 has.

Dog fights using canons are mostly a thing of the past. They are won by air to air missles now, and we have that part nailed down.

Chris don't forget about who has the most experience and best missile system.
