why do some people act badly toward homeschooling? I worry about what goes on in schools, and I prefer to teach my kids at home where they are safe and have one on one attention.

I think homeschooling is great as long as you give your children the social interaction they need. The homeschooled children that I knew growing up were socially awkward and faced some challenges in that area. But no matter where your children go to school, they still need education in the home, no matter what. Try to schedule play dates with other children their age so they have more interaction. Or if you know other mothers homeschooling, try to plan days where one of you takes all the kids, just for more interaction. I think it's great that you're homeschooling your children and wish you the best.

I think homeschooling is fine for certain reasons. If the schools are bad or the child has a special need.

School can be better because Teachers are more qualified, school is a great social environment and they learn alot more then reading, math etc., they learn to work together to achieve a goal etc etc.

If you are just worried because you heard that someone got shot 500 miles away, that's silly. Kids can get shot anywhere.

My old neighbors homeschooled and the kids turned out more rebellious than the kids that went to school and got into more trouble. They were naive because they were not exposed to the real world and got taken advantage of emotionally and sexually. They didnt know how to deal with most people or situations either.

It isn't the norm...so some people frown upon it. It is becoming more and more common though. One of my best friends home-schools her kids and I think it is one of the best things you can do (although it isn't for everyone). I think the people who think badly about it are ill-informed. They don't know what all it takes to home-school. You have guidelines like kids in public schools have. You are just able to give them more attention which is very helpful when you are teaching them. So many kids are sitting in public schools in classes that have way too many kids. They don't get the individual attention they need and are left behind. Don't worry about what some people say about you home-schooling. It takes a strong person to do it and you should be proud! Don't worry, I am sure they will eat their words when your kids end up with better scores than the school's average. : )

I don't have a problem with homeschooling, as long as the kids are socialized. You see so many parents that keep their children away from kids their own age, and prevent them from playing sports and things like that. I've seen lots of programs for kids that are home schooled, so they can get together with other kids their age and are also home schooled. Some people are closed minded and aren't open to new things...you have the right to raise your kids however you want!!

People are fast to knock what they don't understand. Nothing wrong with homeschooling at all. You show you are a caring and concerned parent by doing it. Schools are not like they used to be. People who knock homeschooling think it's an easy way out, or it's not as good as public school. Some children come out smarter than public school children. Best of luck and keep on.

because some people think that if a child is homeschooled, they will not develop social skills like those developed by kids in public or private schools. this could lead to problems later on in life when the home schooled kid is out in the work world alone. talking to people and interacting with other memebers of society may be a chanllenge.

It worries me that the children aren't properly socializing with kids their own age. But if they are involved in outside activities and you are capable of successfully teaching them from home then I say don't worry about what others think. Peer pressure is something you will need to teach your children and it NEVER ends.Does it?

i have dealt with home school kids from several perspectives. i have seen it work wonderfully and i have seen it struggle. i think that the problem many people see is that many home school kids are not as socially adapt and their traditional school counterparts. the thing to remember is not every child is made to do well in home school as is the case in traditional school. as long as your children are thriving who cares what everyone else thinks.

Ignorance - all they see are the crazy people on Wife Swap! Homeshooling is liberating for children to explore and find out what they love! To be free to learn their way, to have books picked out just for them, to learn at their pace and interact with ALL kinds of people not just of their peers!!!
