Drink lots - Take at least a couple of days and do not talk at all (or sing). Do not whisper, whistle, clear your throat, or cough. Your voice needs rest. The cords are swollen and you can seriously damage your voice permanently by continuing to talk and trying to sing. After a couple of days, try talking and see what your voice feels like. If it is still bad, then you may need to try several more days of quiet (sometimes it can take up to two weeks). If you are much improved, go back into singing carefully. Don't sing for very long at a time, and then don't push the extremes of your range. Do more and more very gradually, as long as your throat is feeling okay. Think of it like having a sprained ankle. It takes a little bit to get back into things. If you push too hard at first, you can injure yourself again and even more seriously.

Drinking water will help you stay more hydrated. Your mucous membranes (the insides of your mouth, throat, etc.) are all of the same stuff that your vocal cords are. If your cords are dry, they can become even more damaged. Drinking water will not help reverse the problem, but hydration is an important factor in your vocal health.

Unfortunately drinking water and tea will not solve your problems. In order to help you must rest your vocal cords. Water and other liquids do not ever touch your vocal cords so they are no good. When you talk and sing you're vocal cords vibrate and swell in order to work. The best thing to do is not sing or talk at all so that your vocal chords will realign and your voice will be back to normal.

drink as much water and tea as you can. this happened to me before. i carried a water bottle with me all day at school and was chugging it all the time in class. Within like three days it stopped hurting so badly. Also try and save your voice by not talking/singing so much. If it continues after a few days, you really should see your doctor.

If your throat is sore, gargle warm salt water. It's nasty...but it helps.
