Lap Band - Pros and Cons?

I am interested in the lap band...can anyone tell me some pros and cons - How long does it take to get back to normal...

Con- On Oct 16th my daughters step mother of 17 yrs and mother of a 7yr old son died from compliacations of lap band surgery done on Oct 12th.
