They are fresh, red is good for you, and, apparently, they are especially good for men and help prevent prostrate problems.
Even better they are DELICIOUS! (sorry for shouting, but they are!) I eat them sliced on buttered bread with salt, pepper and chili. Yum!

Lycopene! Great for preventing cancer and it also has other antioxidants to help protect your body. However, you get much more lycopene in a cooked tomato. Dr. Oz says that you need to combine the cooked tomatoes with some sort of fat source so that your body can properly take in the nutrients and put them to good use.
As for fresh tomatoes, I'd say water and some fiber! :)

Besides the other answers there is a compound in the clear jelly stuff that surrounds the seeds that is ridiculously good for the heart and arteries! You don't see any press on that because the drug companies can't get it into a pill.

They contain a lot of vitamins and also the compounds called lycophenes which are said to be excellent in preventing cancer.
