I bought a Sony, which has been good. I've heard they're a bit delicate, easily damaged etc., but they're fine if you're careful setting them up and then don't touch them.
There are lots of channels. There are ones like the new BBC ones which show repeats; can be good if you've missed something. We never bother to video anything now. Also some music channels, and a horrible BBC children's channel, wall-to-wall inane cartoons and 'crazy' presenters, but the kids like it. There are good films on sometimes, too. Otherwise, there are shows that sell 'bargain' jewellery, and chav quizzes. On the whole, I'm glad we bought it, it's a bonus. Was worth the price, and very easy to set up, and the picture quality is much better. You need to check that your aerial is capable of receiving digital, though.

You get loads of good channels and new one pop up every now and then. Anyhow, my freeview went down for a good 2 months. All i got was no signal or a jumbled up picture. Since then i've had no trouble. It's worth checking if your area is in the Freeview Zone.

Yeah, they're ok, you get plenty of choise on them. Should warn you though, if you are getting it for a child, you can get some rather 'adult' programes on some of the channels - usually late at night tho.
Asda are selling at £24 at the moment. It's not a brand one but it's the same one i've been using for the last 18 months and i've had no probs with mine.

Small world, I know an Yvonne D too!
True, there are a lot of home-buying channels, but no more than Sky/Cable. I just make sure they are not in my Favourites. It still leaves me with about 20 TV channels which are worth having + lots of radio channels if you want them.

They are, although some are better than others. I have 2. A panasonic which is top notch and a Ferguson, which is not as good. The picture quality is excellent for all, but the downloads for new stations can vary. I would say, get one....

They are not too bad, but mine has a habit of the picture freezing (pixelating I think it is called) and every now and then I have to keep resetting the programmes.
But on the whole they are OK...lots more channels for not a lot of money

yes good value but it depends on what free channels you get in your area. My daughter doesn't get Sky One which has programmes which she would like but recently she got Film 4 (We are watching Tea with Mussolini at the moment)

I guess it depends how old your daughter is, I`m really dissapointed in the two we bought all the channels seem to be variations of q.v.c, they all just want to sell you things.
