When I was 16 and first wanted to color my hair I begged my mom repeatedly. She recommended I use Clairol Loving Care. It's a hair color but it has no amonia, no peroxide. It's basically just a rinse. The box says it lasts 2-3 weeks, if I remember correctly but it usually lasted a week with me because I washed my hair everyday and it's an accumulative color, so if you applied it every month for a year by the end of the year it would probably last up to a month in your hair. It didn't damage my hair whatsoever because it was chemical free, but it's also not something you can use if you want to lighten your hair it's just mostly for covering gray. However if you want to go darker it works. I have chestnut hair and I used dark ash brown for dark brown hair and it was great.
You have to take the same precautions with it as you would any hair color because since it is a rinse it still stains, so have a towel wrapped around you, cover the sink, put something on your skin to avoid staining and of course the gloves it comes with. Also there is no mixing with it. Just apply, leave on for 20-30 minutes, although since I wanted my hair darker I left it on for an hour so it would adhear better and it did not ruin my hair, so if you want to do that it's fine. When it comes to washing, mix a little water with your hair and scrub your scalp like you're shampooing, then rinse all of it out, put the conditioner in it comes with and you're all set. And also avoid washing it for the next day or two if you want the color to last longer.

Well, it would be best to purchase a dye from your hair salon. I got purple and it cost like $7 for the bottle. If you are dying your whole head, get two or three bottles.
Make sure the hair is bleached a light color, otherwise the dye will NOT show up. Or it will have very little effect.
Either way, waste of money.
Put gloves on.
Take a tint brush and put the dye on your hair.
Then use tin foil and wrap the hair in it.
Leave on for as long as you can, 5 hours even, take out the foil, and wash in cool water until the water turns clear.
May use a dish soap on the first shampoo.
Color will bleed with every shower.
Lasts about 2-5 weeks.

Just buy a non-permanent dye. Permanent dye is a Level 3 coverage, which means that it lasts until you re-dye or strip it. But, of course, your hair continues to grow so women have to do root touch-ups.
To avoid the commitment, try either a Level 1 or 2. A level 1 will last around 10 shampoos, and a level 2 will last for about 28 shampoos.
Level 1's:
Clairol's Loving Care line
L'Oreal's Color Pulse (mouse)
Clairol's Color Flirt (mouse)
Level 2's:
Clairol's Natural Instincts

Go to the hair color section and get the hair color that is suppose to wash out after 1 wash. Clairol, lorel all of them have a good selection. Just look at the box and read whether it says permanent, 20 washes, 10 washes or just 1 one wash. That's what you want. It may take two or three washes to get it out, but it doesn't last.
Be sure to read all of the instructions before using it. And if you still have questions, each of those companies has an 800 number to call and ask.

Go to a department store and buy a semi permanent color. They wash out in like 6-8 shampoos. Or they make the ones that only last through 1 wash.

If you want temporary hair die that lasts 8-10 washes get color pulse. It is only $5.00 at walmart, kmart, target, etc. I've used it and I was very happy. It comes in the form of moose and you lather in into your hair after washing it. You leave it in for a half hour and after that you just wash it out. But be careful, you MUST wash it out all the way, last time I died my hair (i died it black) I did not wash all the moose(which was purple) out and my hair was a purple color instead of black. I hope I helped
