I've been taking Cymbalta for about two months now and I can't tell a thing. I was diagnosed with depression and was prescribed it. But most days I feel irritable and/or tired. Some days I get jittery. I was hoping this drug would relieve me of the things in my life that gave me the most problems. I've spoken to the doctor and they said (sometimes) it may take a while for the Cymbalta to work. Maybe I'm expecting too much. Any feedback??

My mom and I are on Cymbalta. I felt a difference within the first week. My Mom did not feel a difference until a month after first taking it. The only difference in our lifestyles besides age is that she has a few glasses of wine at night before she goes to sleep. I believe drinking might have an effect on how well Cymbalta works. Also, it does take longer for some people to feel a difference. My therapist tells me that the pill won't keep me from being depressed; that I have to do some "foot work". This includes setting reasonable goals and making an effort to achieve them. The sun is a natural anti-depressant so it might be helpful to take a walk or do some yard work, play outdoor sports, etc.

Good luck!

Hi Nash. The good thing about Cymbalta is that is a soft medicine. It does not give you many side effects and you don´t get dependent on it. I was also diagnosed with Depression and prescribed with Cymbalta. Maybe the only difference is that I am taking Zyprexa too. You do not have to depend 100% on the medicine. I think medicines are for relieving symptoms a bit but one has to do other things while the medicine works. I recommend you try to find with your shrink what is making you depressed. You might also do other activities such as exercise, Yoga, and acupuncture that help to diminish symptoms. Remember that meds only hide the problem they does not solve them. No drug is going to relieve you of the things in life that are bothering you. Medication is not an escape or easy way out and as you're seeing, it doesn't work for everyone and not nearly as well as promised. You'll only work out your issues with lots of hard work and therapy. I've been on loads of meds that have done very little and I'm not taking any right now and doing well because I'm in therapy and working my butt of at getting better.

I'm not completely knacking pills just that most people expect too much from them. By two months you should have noticed a differnce. I was on Cymbalta, it never did much for me either... But we're all different. Out of curiosity do you see a regular doctor or a psychiatrist because if you want to go the pill route see a psychiatrist because they know way more about anti-depressants and the like than a regular doctor.

Hey Nash. I started taking it about 3 weeks ago - i take 20 mg in the AM and 20 mg at nite. It has JUST started to kick in the past few days for me. I have GAD and a recent event this summer kicked it into high gear with a touch of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. I'm not really depressed as much as i am anxious - it manifests in me where i constantly worry about every ache and pain I have and think i'm "sick" all the time with cancer or something or other - it's due to what happened this summer but it's way outta control. And i was also getting a lot of panic attacks. I have noticed the past maybe three days or so that i have not obsessed over my health one iota which started to freak me out - haha. It has made me VERY tired. I have been in bed by maybe 8:30 PM at the LATEST since maybe the fourth day i started taking it. I could sleep 15 hours and still want to sleep some more, but i have found that is also starting to get better. What dose are you taking? Good that your dr is alerted to the situation and can correct it - but i do agree it takes some time to get into your system - when i was on effexor i saw results almost immediately.
