I am writing a trend paper on how more women are getting tattoos. So far all of the research is giving me is that we get them, because it makes us feel sexy. I happen to disagree to a point. Iknow that some women DO get them for that reason. I got mine to represent specific times in my life. Why did you get yours and what did you get? Please also let me know if i can contact you via email or messenger for the answers that I like for a little interview to use for my thesis. Thanks..

I have so many reasons for my tattoos.

My first tattoo I did myself. I was going through a hard time in my life. And I didn't want to make the same mistakes again, so I have something to remember them they by and tell me "Hey... you did that before and it turned out badly".

My second tattoos are two hearts with bat wings on each hip bone.
In the wiccan religion a winged heart means to bring love.
I was going through a very lonely time.

Then my third is the state of Hawaii. This place has made me who I am.
And not only is it a part of me on the inside. But the outside too.

And my Last tattoo is a moon with two lilies on either side and a scarab beetle underneath with its wings spread. I believe strongly in astrology. Being a Cancer my ruler is the moon. My favorite flower is the lily and it is also ruled by the moon. And in the Egyptian zodiac the Cancer was portrayed as a scarab beetle.

My tattoos make me feel powerful because I am not ashamed of what I am.
Who I am and who I was is displayed all over my body, not everyone has the guts to let the world know who they are. My tattoos remind me that I am brave, I am strong, and I can take on anything that life has to throw at me.

I used to be a person who didn't appreciate tattoos on women because I thought it took something away from their femininity. However, years later I found myself getting a tattoo to commemorate my late husband who was killed in an accident. I love my tattoo. It is of a Tulip which is my favorite flower and the only kind of flower he ever gave me while we were married. I had Kanji put around the tulip which signify complete-harmonious-love. It is about 6" by 3", on my lower right leg, and still colorful after 12 years. So, I didn't get a tattoo to feel sexy, I got a tattoo to remind me that I had another life once; that I can overcome any obstacle in life. It is a reminder of my empowerment as a woman and as a human being going through my own human revolution. I'm glad I did it.

I have two tattoo's

My first tattoo is on my right upper arm and it is the bullhead (taurus) tattoo infront of flames. I have the Astrological taurus sign because that is what my mother brother and I all are. The bullhead is an outline and it is in red and the flames are black.

My second tattoo is on my right lower calf. It is of the Pisces symbol which is what my husband is. I had that one reversed so the symbol is in black and outlined in red.

The reason that I did red and black is because they are my favorite colors and just happen to be my husbands also. He picked out and paid for my pisces and my brother paid for my taurus they both mean alot to me and represent a time in my life.

If you want any more information there is alot more to the stories. I got all my tattoos to mean something, they are apart of me. I can remember the exact day and time I got my tattoos, I can tell you who was there with me, where i got it done and the name of the tattoo artist, along with why I got the tattoo and why i got it where i did. These are things that are important to me because they aren't just for looks they are a reminder of different times in my life and things that i never want to forget, the goog and the bad.
Please feel free to email me if you want more info

I got a leprechaun stealing a pot of gold tattoo on my right shoulder blade because I'm 1/4 irish and mischevious. I got it because it represents who I am, and that's something I think is the driving force that a lot of people get tattoos. Also, someone might get a tattoo because they want to do something that they have never done in their life before and want to try something new. I don't think that getting a tattoo makes you feel sexy, I think that the reason many women get tattoos is that they want to represent a new turning point in their life and want something that represents them, instead of getting one to feel sexy.

I have 3 tattoos and none of them are meant to make me feel sexy. I got my first one because I hate wearing jewelry sometimes but always wanted to have on the cross my great aunt gave me after my grandma died. I put it on the inside of my hip bone on my right side. On the other side I put an ankh. It means eternal life and I have always held the belief that everybody lives after they die whether it be in heaven or some other way. These two were mainly for my grandma who suddenly died of a massive heart attack at the age of 54, 4 days after Christmas.

My third is on the lower part of my back and is a butterfly that I designed. I put my husbands last name in between the bottom of the wings. I got this one done because we had just had our first child and it will eventually be the like a mother's ring but always with me like the cross. I got a butterfly because they are beautiful and they break out of their cocoon when ready. After we have a few more children I will add them to it somehow, either with smaller butterflies or have tree branches with caterpillars crawling towards the center.

I hope this helps and you can email me if you would like. karry_stahl@yahoo.com

Happy to help with your paper.
I have many tatts...sleeved, backpiece, one in each ear and my legs are done from the knees down.
I got my first one because I had ALWAYS wanted one. I told my mom when I was very young that I was going to get a tattoo someday. My first one was Yosemite Sam, he is my favorite cartoon character. My second tatt was a huge peice on my back. It was my daughter's names. My third was a keyhole with a sun a moon and some stars. I like to look at the night time sky and what I see is such a small amount of the sky...its like seeing it through a keyhole.
Sexy had nothing to do with any of mine. I don't get them for other people...I get them for me.
I love cartoons so I have some of my favorite cartoon characters on one leg.
The ones in my ears I just did because it is a place most people don't have them.
You may contact me anytime, I hope I have helped.
not2tall66 is my yahoo IM.
Good luck on the paper!!!

I wanted my first tattoo to mean something. I got my first tattoo to represent my family. I have a 4 leaf clover with me-my husband and 2 kids zodiac symbols (one in each leaf) It was my husbands idea for that design, we have matching ones. My second tattoo is of a cross to represent my faith. The next few I am planning on are purely because they look cool. Sexy has nothing to do with it. You are either sexy or your not.

I got my tattoo 9 years ago a little of a pair of roses on my foot. This tattoo had nothing to do with feeling sexy.

I love roses and I love getting roses. At the time I got my tattoo, I was getting over a very bad time in my life when I was not very happy with myself and was considering doing something stupid to myself. I got my tattoo as a present to myself to remind myself that I am a good person and I deserve good things in life. Now everyday I wake up with two beautiful roses that I gave to myself.

The next tattoo I'm considering is a honor to my Irish heritage and again has nothing to do with being sexy. I love the image and the meaning of the Irish claddagh and I'm seriously leaning toward getting that as my next tat.

I have no problem with getting any e-mails from you if you have any questions.

Good luck with your thesis. :)

First let me say that I would not mind answering any questions that you might have.

As for Tattoos, I have 4. I did not get them to feel sexy, but I did not get them for any great meaning ether, I got them because I love art and I guess I was just in a place to get one. The first one is of a lion cub laying on a log on my right breast, I was with my husband and I really liked it so I got it. The second is of a moon with the face of a woman, it is on my right shoulder, I went to a conference with some friends and we were looking for a bank and we got lost, but we did find a tattoo parlor. The third is of a fairy holding a flower on my left calf, that I got years after the first two, well that one I got because I started doing tattooing and I needed to do one on myself. The forth one is of a Kokopelli on a beach it is on my right calf, I got that one because I have always loved the southwest and the beach and kokopelli is beloved in the southwest and lets face it, he is just cool.

I hope this helps, and again if you have any questions you can always send me a message.

I just got my first tattoo last wednesday. It is a butterfly on by bikini line-right side. My sister and I got matching butterflies. I had always wanted a tattoo, not to feel sexy because i really think there is nothing sexy about them, i just wnated one because i live butterflies and my sister has a couple of tattoos and she wanted another one and wanted me to get one too. I was scared to do it because it would hurt but she convinced me by getting a matching one. Now we are bonded together forever in more ways than just being sisters! It was a really cool thing to do together and i'm glad we did it-despite all the pain!!
