Well I have seen people with high intelligence that have very wrong motives and bad character. So good character is more important than being a smarty. I'd like to think that I have both. :) hehehe

No. I believe good character (good morals) are the most important. What good is intelligence if you never tell the truth?

I don't think there is any reason the two can't go hand in hand...
And that it's best if a person has both attributes.
If I had to pick only one, intelligence would win -- that's a personal attribute that is good for the individual, while "good character" is a social attribute that's good for society.

I think they should go hand in hand. Although some of the time they do not.
Are you trying to somehow sum this up into Christians (good character) are better then scientists (intelligence)?
If you are that is a bad argument.

Intelligence causes good character because you have to believe in yourself before you'll believe in others.
People refer to me as a Saint because I'm very understanding of others and that comes from my intelligence because it allows me to relate to others very well.
A very charming easy going person is also very intelligent most of the time.
Ignorance is usually at war with ones self and that shows up in their character flaws because they will normally cause problems for others also, misery loves company.
What most people are referring to as an intelligent person that's also an asshole is actually an ignorant person just claiming to be intelligent, there are alot of them. I think alot of people think that just existing makes them smart, I'm afraid it's not that easy.
But a truly intelligent person can't be bad because it goes against their own intelligence to be so.

In the long run, it can be. If the person's intelligence contributes to society as a whole and the person is only an asss to people around him, I'd say that's worth it.

a resounding NO!
did you know a lot of people who designed the Gas Chambers the Germans used in the holocaust had PHd's?
AND i've tried to work with a LOT of highly intelligent people with zero character. I could never get anything done because they would not listen for one second to any idea I had for ANYTHING.
Besides, character can in and of itself make you want to learn.

Genuine intelligence and good character go hand in hand. Good character comes from informed and thoughtful consideration of one's action's and the consequences of those actions for the self, family, community, nation, and world.
One cannot be of 'good character' by faith. Faith is neither moral nor immoral -- the moral judgement is prejudged by the various holy texts. Character is in decision making, not obedience.
