ok my barand new pit puppy (she's about 8 weeks) just won't go potty outside. I can keep her out there all night and she'll hold it till she comes in. I don't know what to do... I could handle it if she went in the same spot but it's all over the house. Can anyone help me to get her to go outside??? I've even been taking her out on a schedule. HELP!!!!

8 week old pups can't "hold it" all night. THEY NEED TO GO ABOUT ONCE AN HOUR!

Take her out more often. I think what you're mistaking for "holding it" is just her digestive and urinary system doing a really good job.

Praise her for going outside. Bap yourself on the head with a newspaper when she has accidents inside the house - you wern't watching close enough!

Crate training is a great way to help with housebreaking.

Use an enzymatic cleaner on the spots your puppy goes inside so they can't smell it anymore later on. This helps with housebreaking.

Ok no slapping as the previous person said, that will only teach her to go when you cant see her.

Do you know if she went on newspapers or potty pads before she came to you? if so then you need to put the newspaper, puppy pad outside so that she associates with going on it.

Also do not give her full range of the house. She is too young to understand. Limit her to a room. And watch her, will start sniffing around when she needs to go out.

You can attache a leash to her and attach it to you (tetering) this way you are know where she is at all times.

Also at 8 weeks she will need to potty when she wakes up, after eating, after playing, several times in the night.

If you catch her in the act say no firmly, pick her up and take her outside. then praise her when she does it outside. you might have to keep her on a leash so that she doesn't get distracted when out there.

She was probably born in a basement or something with a floor. Train her to go on pee pads and slowly move the pee pads outside. Be patient but firm she will get the hang of it. Everytime she wets somewhere else shout no and put her on the pad. Then stroke her gently and say on the pad. Wipe up her pee with the pad so it has her scent. Watch her she will do a little dance before peeing all dogs do. They smell and circle the spot they are going to go in. Everytime she uses the pad praise her feverishly. Once the pads are outside and she is going on them regularly now is the time to not allow her to go in the house anymore. Put the pee pad to where it is caught in the door so she can see it sticking out from under the door and smell it but can't get to it. She will learn to bark or wine and then you can let her out and use the pad. Then slowly get rid of the pad. Cut in half then 4ths but I don't think you will have to do that by the time she is going outside.

Confine her to one room, take her OUT at least every hour on the hour.....and within 10 minutes of any food consumption. It's labor intensive but she will catch on in a day or 2. Make it all FUN and give her lots of praise when she is outside whether she does anything or not. Use a key word like be a NICEGIRL. She will catch right on.
