I've recently set up a website aimed at getting some kitties that live on the street near my place into homes. It has live streaming video of the kitties needing homes at night, and my kitties in the day. For awhile I was getting a good response, but now it's quietened down, and I need to figure out how to get it happening again! Ideas?? It's for a good cause...I"m paying for the desexing etc.... the site is http://www.kittiesinthehood.com
Thanks

Re what Autogest says...street kitties rarely ever want to go back outside! Most are so happy to be rescued they never want to see the outdoors again has been my experience, and I've now rescued about 15 and they've all been the same!

Re what Kitty Gurl says, if she looked at the site she would have seen that all kitties have tested negative for feline leukemania. And they are also aids tested at their first vet visits. Just because you didn't do it, doesn't mean the rest of us don't.

Oopss...leukemia, not mania!

To Mary...if you looked at the site you would see they have all been to the vet and checked out thoroughly. Why do you people make these sorts of assumptions without even looking at the site??

Wow, I just want to say that what you are doing is ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL! I can't take another kitty in right now and I'm poor but if I had money I would have loved to help you out. Try partnering with the local humane society perhaps? And maybe you can advertise in the local papers. Keep up the good work. You're doing wonders for these kitties.

That is VERY cool. You... That's... Your awesome. I wish I could see the site better. I might be able later today. We just got a new computer. I will be there soon. And if there is anyway to help... I'll try my best to.

If you havent already... try going to the local animal shelter to see if they can (mean to say but it'll work) capture the cats so they can get there shots and stuff. Maybe you could put a couple fliers around town or something.

But what ever you do... Best of luck. :-D

Yes only if the cat can co-esist in the home and not hurt people. I highly recommend shots and check up asap. Don't get immediately attached for the cat might be infected with FIP, and then euthanasia is likely. The cat on the other hand will thank you for a home and someone to love, do it if you want a15-20 year commitment of a little fur buddy, don't do it for a good cause for the moment.

That's a great idea and all but you have to realize that a street cat is different than a house cat. The street cat is going to want to be outside all the time. People may be seeing this and that's why people aren't as receptive.

Its wonderful that your helping these pets and trying to get them a new home the only problem is that some of these cats could possibly have illnesses of all sorts and you may also have the problem of how they react to new people environments and so on but were your doing is still great because of as we all know when most of these animals are taken to the animal they are usually put to sleep

Both of my cats have been outside "street" cats. They won't go near the door anymore! They still love the open windows to watch the birds and stuff but I don't think they want to go out there!
As far as getting your website getting more responses, i don't really know. Try doing stuff throught your communtiy that gets your name out and so people know what you are doing.

Good Luck!!

my family adopted a tomcat, got him all fixed up and such, and decided to give him another friend to play with, so we got another kitty. they got along, but one day we brought the kitten to the vet because of discharge in his eyes. we found out that he had feline leukemia. so we brought in our tomcat (to the vet) and found that he had it too...and as cats grow older, the tend to develop an immunity to the virus, so we figured the tomcat gave it to our new kitten. the tomcat died about a year or two later.
a month after, our kitten had just turned one year old.
he died at almost one year and one week old.
moral is, make sure your cats are checked for this virus. it is not accurately detected in a young kitten, but should show up in more mature cats. however, i think you have a good job going for you.
