What do you have to look for in a puppy? I mean health etc. I looked at a puppies today, they all had protuding stomachs, big fleas and they shook like leaves. Is this something you have to avoid? At how many weeks can you de-flea a dog? I was shocked to see that the mother dog and another dog were tied up in the garden "because they chase chicken", this was a cold winter day. Is this cruel?

oh lord run as fast as you can in the other direction. the problems you see now are the least of the problems you will see down the road. Sounds like a backyard breeder.

Please go to your local shelter there are tons of dogs there. And there are all kinds of rescues out there that take good care of the dogs. Or buy from a reputable breeder. Do your homework. Find out what kind of dog you want. if you get from a breeder, ask if they do health checks, like xray hips, albow and check for thyroid problems in the parents.

Stay away from petshops since they mostly buy their dogs from puppymills.

And yes those dogs you saw will have all kinds of health problems and yes it is cruel to leave them out like that.

Oh lord honey run away as fast as you can! This is either a puppymill, which is a place where the owner breeds the dogs in small cages over and over, or a backyard breeder. I would even report this place. Yes, this is cruel.
Things you need to look for:
See how the mother and father are, if they have good personalities, and have papers, healthy and have info. on there last shots thats a boost
Another thing is seeing how the puppies act. If they lay around, they might not be the best. Good personlaties mean better dogs in the long run.
If they have had dewormers, and shots if old enough
Stay away tips are:
Protuding Stomachs , this is a sign of worms, or future worms.
Big fleas. these puppies are going to have problems. fleas make more fleas and I know it sounds tempting to try to rescue one of these pups but don't. Your going to spend thousands of dollars on one.
Shaking like leaves? Are they underweight? This is one of the biggiest things to advoid.
Please , for these puppy's sakes report this "Breeder". Go to some real breeders and the perfect breeder will have a pup perfect for you.
Good Luck, and hoped this helped!

The puppies had protruding stomachs most likely because they have worms and they were probably shaking because they were malnorished.if the mother is treated badly chances are the puppies are as well. you have to wait a while before you can give a puppy flea treatments. the quality of the breeder is a big determination in buying a puppy. i would never buy a dog from a breeder that i was unsure about. if you are looking to get a pure bred make sure the dog has papers. if a dog is unhealthy as a puppy you will only continue to have problems when they get older which will result in very high vet bills.

I would def. avoid this breeder...they dont treat their dogs well at all...depends on too cold based on the breed of dog, i have a malamute and he loooves it when it's freezing out!! Protruding stomachs probably indicates that they have worms, which is typical in puppies , but a decent breeder would have that all cleared up b4 selling them...fleas are a nightmare to get rid of...look for a puppy that runs right up to you and loves to be played with. A good indicator if he has an aggressive personality is to roll the puppy on his back, they generally dont like this, his response to this will let you know what his temperment is..you dont want one who bites you when you do this!!

don't get a puppy from them! and please turn this person in to your local shelter!! look for a flea free, bright eyes puppies who come up to you for affection! i recommend you find a good breeder who takes allot better care of their dogs! these people are only in it for the money!!! if you can, also check out your local shelter!! these animals make really good pets, and are fairly cheap! not all dog in a shelter are mixed! i got an full blooded German rott. from the apl once!! you will also know they are in way better health then the ones you looked at!!!!

I would not purchase an animal from that place. The puppies probably never had their booster shots, and probably have worms (common reason behind protruding stomachs).
If you don't mind a mixed breed, I suggest going to local shelters & rescues. There are many HEALTHY puppies there, that need good homes.

you are looking in all the wrong places! Do NOT go to a pet store!
Try a local kennel with a good reputation or even not local- I live in n.E and had my puppy shipped fro MO I researched it and i was a reputable kennel
what kind of puppy are you looking for?

Walk away from those places. I'll give you a couple resources to help you find a reputable breeder. No dog should ever be purchased from a non-professional breeder. Even if you only want a pet, your money should only go to people who are responsible, educated, ethical, and reputable breeders. : )

You need to contact your local Animal Control or SPCA and inform them of the condition of these dogs.
