For your own sake, you should really avoid putting the hit out on him/her until your application has been approved.
But, in the case of dying by natural causes, you may be able to file an appeal if they reject your application because your spouse is deceased. You'd have to speak with Immigration & Naturalization Services.

You can still be the beneficiary of an immigrant visa as there is a widow/widower spouse of a USC immigrant visa classification.

Normally you have a chance to file some papers to plead for clemency to allow you to stay in the country. It will be up to the relatives of your wife to allow or deny you that right.
Otherwise, if there are no relatives, deportation should be swift and final.

More info please...are you an illegal immigrant and she's legal? I would imagine if she dies, then your application would become null and void and you'd have to apply all over...
