Are Pugs difficult to look after?
Pugs are no more difficult than any other breed of dog with medium hair. They still need to be fed, walked/exercised, taught manners and basic obedience, like other dogs.
Do they require a lot of attention?
They demand a lot of attention. Pugs are bred for companionship and so they are going to be with you as much as possible. People often complain that Pugs are always under their feet, and laugh that you'll never go to the bathroom alone again. They stick with you as much as possible.
Are they very susceptible to illness?
Their short faces and unprotected eyes cause them to have problems with heat (they can overheat and die from getting too hot) and eye scratches. Some have problems with bad hips like larger dogs do, and bad knees are also known in the breed. But the majority of their problems tend to come from the flat faces and breathing problems. Fixing these problems can run you another $1000 or more for surgery.
Would I recommend you get one?
*IF* you have the time to be with a Pug. *IF* you don't mind the shedding they do (they shed A LOT). *IF* you don't mind the snorting, snuffling noises they make. *IF* you realize that while they are considered a "toy" breed, they often weigh 25 pounds or more.
So yes, if you understand the problems that come with the breed, sure, get a pug. But don't think you can ignore one and have it be a great dog. No dog will do that.

They are dogs that want a lot of attention! We have 2 at home and they left alone during the day while we are at work. When we had one she got really lonely while we were away so we bought her a brother and they get along great. We have a doggie door and the neighbors say they see them playing outside all the time together. They can have problems with breathing which is common and also skin problems including skin cancer. We have encountered the skin cancer problem and was able to get through it and it was not as expensive as it sounds. The vet went in and removed the spots.
They are the best dogs that I have ever had in my life. They are very lovable and great around kids. They do sleep a lot and snore & grunt, but you do get used to it and after awhile you will miss it if they are not around. They LOVE TO EAT! Infact one of my pug books say do pugs eat to live or live to eat. One other thing is that they do shed a lot! We have lint rollers all over our house & in our cars.

Ummm....the nose, they make a weird nose when they breath and they can suffocate easier than any dog. Another disadvantage is their eyes balls, they get irritated easily and can be hurt with anything. On the other hand they are very sweet, friendly and have an awesome personality, they like to play with people and dogs and they are good staying home alone

Puppies are not hard to handle if you have alot of time off and you love pets...There are lap dogs toy dogs hunters...and more.I would suggest a male dog because female are too protective with thereself..you know the beauty thing..lol.You have ot know how to trin them and not be scared because animals can smell fear....they require alot of attention in the beginning.......no other pets like cats, turtles, hamster, rabbit stuff like that or your puppy will be scared, or try to eat them..or you can try to get a puppy from the pound and have him already trained or tske him to gt trained.....my dog has never gotten a full sickness before...maybe he'll throw up...he has a skin infectioin )but thats harmless all it is is that theres white flakes on his skin but ita not bad or contageous) but he'll only throw up if he eats a sock or hair or something hard and strechey.Puppies and dogs can never have table food unless they will start to beg at the table and steal your food when your not looking and they can get sick from chcocolate(especialy little dogs..my dog ate chcocolate but he never got sick because of his weight((85pounds)) so try to stay away from little dogs..

they like to be with you all of the time. especially sitting in your lap or snuggled up next to you. they are one of the sweetest and most protective breeds of dogs. keep in mind that they snort a lot and snore all night. i would definitely recommend you getting one though, they are so much fun!

and those are quizes for the best dog for you! the first one includes hybrids (mixed breeds) and the second one is onlu purebreds. if pugs are on one of the lists than thats good. the quizes ask questions about time you are willing to take for grooming, exersize, and how much room you have, and more. have fun! (the results include pics :D )

Their main physical problems is breathing due to their nose is smashed in. A lot of physical activity causes them to have a hard time breathing fast.
