I’ve been to church before and it really isn’t a good use of my time, it being boring and all. Plus I'd rather be in the lab getting something done. But I’m wondering if I can keep my options open.

A Christian that does not go to church?
That's like a sailor without a ship!
A sail boat with out the sail.
A flash light with no batteries.
Yes it is possible but useless as far as I'm concerned.

It is certainly possible for you to be a Christian and not go to church.

The problem is that it can be hard to maintain Christian beliefs and not go to church (where you are reminded of your belief and learn more and more about Christianity) - not everyone can do it.

You say you would rather be in the lab, but since you say you find it boring I suspect that you are quite young (maybe you mean your own lab, not a professional one). In which case you will probably appreciate what you can learn in church as you get older.

If you are already a young adult, or an adult then I suspect you are not very interested in being a Christian if you are unable to sit through church (you should be willing to learn more about the Christian understanding of God and life). If you are interested in learning and you are an adult you might need to find a better church were you are more interested and happy.

i consider myself a Christian, though I only go to church like 10 times a year. I agree with you. It's boring, and I learned all the basics when I was young, so I don't feel like I'm really learning anymore. I think the real reason to go to church "religiously" (haha) is the atmosphere, surrounding yourself with other Christians. It would help to motivate you, and encourage you with day to day life. At least that's what my Grandmother says, when lecturing me about coming to church more often. But I believe she's right. Spending time with people who have a better understanding of the religion could benefit you when you're going through confusing or doubtful times. Or you never know, you could be the one helping or encouraging someone else. But we are supposed to live that outside of church too, right? I guess I see both sides, so i'm not much help.
Man, I think I'm going to church Sunday.

Jesus said to believe in him and you are saved... However, there are things that Christians do. Worship and Praise Our Lord and Savior together, Love one another, etc. I believe you can be a Christian and don't go to church, however, Our Father asked us to come together as one. It is not the building that makes a church but the people within. If you are bored at church find another one that suits you.

Yes, there are elderly people and invalids who can not make it. If you found a boring church look for another. Obviously you haven't found the right one to feed your spirit.
Obey God's word and do not forsake the assembling of yourself with other believers.
Much better to be connected to others than try to make it out on your own.

The Church is the collective members of the body of Christ. It is not a building you go to. Keeping your options open would infer that you are not a part of that body and no man comes to the father but through the acceptance of the atonement provided by God through Jesus Christ our lord.

The only requirement that you have to do to get into God's heaven is to believe that the Lord Jesus Christ died for your and that He was buried and took your sins away and He rose again the third day for your justification. If you have truly done that then that is all that is required. God does tell us to study His Word so you can understand His will for your life. 2 Timothy 2: 15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. The local church should teach you God's Word if it is not find you one that will. If you can't find one do it yourself.

Here's what the Bible says,

HEBREWS 10:23-25

23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; for he is faithful that promised;

24 and let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:

25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.

The short answer is... yes, to the going to church.... to the "options"... there are only two... and they remain open untill your last councious mortal breath...
But there is a bit more to it. If you have a question concerning the basics of The True Christian Faith you may email me. 1 honest question receives one honest answer to the best of my ability.

Absolutely. Being a Christian means you believe Jesus died for your sins and you accept Him into your heart. I think organized religion is a far cry from what Jesus intended. A personal relationship with Jesus and His word to read are most important.
