Well, teaching DOES sound more like something a furbaby owner would be interested in. Or maybe call it behavior shaping or modification.
Training sounds just plain mean, like you are treating your furbaby like an animal or something. LOL!

It depends on the person... if the person is lazy, they would probably wimp out no matter what you call it. People that are dedicated to the training of their animals look at it as a positive thing, they know it as a way of bonding with their pet, it gives them a sense of worth and empowerment, they will go through the challeng and tribulations of training the dog no matter what it is called.

I really don't think it would make any difference. No matter what you call it ...it's a lot of time and effort and many haven't thought beyond the fact that the puppy is so cute now. We call it teaching for children....but isn't it really training them to be good people? I loved this post....interesting question.

So is that what happened to you? You never received the proper training or teaching on how to be NICE to people. Sorry your parents wimped out on you. Maybe its not to late. Repeat this to yourself 50 times a day. Treat others as I wish to be treated...treat others as I wish to be treated...treat others as I wish to be treated. And if anyone takes the time to read your comments to people they will know exactly what I mean. And see, I got my point across without calling you any names. :) Have a nice day GetEmGang.!

If you go to a dog obedience class the instructor teaches you how to train your dog . The instructor does not train your dog

Like people, dogs can learn too! Granted they are lucky they dont have to learn math! Even tho I know of a dog that can count to ten with his toys! Everyone/everything has to "go to school" some day in their life, creates restictions and rules and guidelines!

Consider a totally new perspective. That is, rather than talk about the label for the activity, why not talk about the benefits...
1. Better behavior
2. Less poop at bad times
3. More obedienace
4. Less chewing
5. Less barking
You get the point. :-)

Well if you could "teach" a dog, you should be able to sit it down in front of the black board and explain all.

Unfortunately, it doesn't matter what it is called. Some people just do not have the patience for it, and that is why they do not follow through with it all.

No, people expect dogs to automatically know how to behave.
Actually, nowadays they seem to expect kids to automatically know how to behave too......
