In Rodolphe Kasser's book The gospel of Judas, The gospel that has not been seen since the beginnings of christianity has re-emerged. It contents, which is told from the perspective of Judas, suggests that Jesus asked Judas to betray him, and that he was in fact a role model for all of those who wished to be disciples of Jesus ( Abstract).
This gospel was passed off as heresy by St. Irenaeus in 180, only to be rediscovered by farmers in a mid- Egyptian cavern in the 1970's. The gospel was finally re-interpreted by experts in 2001. Was he a traitor or a role model? speak on it.....

"For the Son of Man is to go just as it is written of Him; but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been good for that man if he had not been born."

Mark 14:21

Does that really sound like someone you want for a role model? The gospel of Judas was excluded from the Bible for good reason; it was not the inspired Word of God, and is therefore heresy. The Bible clearly warns against this.

"I testify to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: if anyone adds to them, God will add to him the plagues which are written in this book;"

Revelation 22:18

From my point of view (having been indoctrinated in Fundamentalist Christian High School for 6 very long, torturous years) Judas was a guy who made a mistake, and afterwards was full of self-hatred and self-condemnation.

He was a Zealot, a member of a group of rebellious Jews (Israel was in bondage to Rome), who were waiting for the Messiah. The Messiah they were waiting for, however, was a liberating Hero.

In Israels Biblical history, there was a repeating pattern, of:
1) Israel is doing fine.
2) Israel gets sinful.
3) God punishes Israel with them being conquered.
4) Israel repents.
5) God sends a "Hero" to save Israel.
6) go back to step 1.

The Messiah they were looking for was a new Hero, in fact, a Superhero, to save Israel from Rome. Well, Judas had all the proof he needed that Jesus was a Super, and figured that when they got t Jerusalem, Jesus, the Messiah, was going to start the Smite-fest, drive out the Romans, and free Israel from Bondage (see step 5).

But, when they got to Jerusalem...no Smite-fest!

So Judas hits on this idea...He figured to light a fire under Christs butt, turn him over to the authorities, and he'd have to start up the Smite-fest! Israel would be free! Judas the big hero! Everyone would admire him!

The rest, as they would say, is Biblical.

Traitor-the recently discovered gospel according to Judas is part of a body of literature called the "gnostic gospels" which do not teach christianity along the lines of Christian church. They believe that "Secret knowledge" is the key to salvation.

I consider the gospel of Judas a revisionist version of the crucifixion, written by an obscure sect.

What you have considered is obviously fake. Judas grew to become into an apostle yet in addition a thief and a liar. He betrayed Jesus for 30 silver products. Why could judas be from GOD if be labored against him. The bible states that devil's evil spirit entered into judas and judas listened and betrayed GODS son JESUS. So he grew to become into from the devil not from GOD. He then went off and hung him self because of the fact he would desire to not stay with what he had carried out. He betrayed holy spirit and there is not any forgiveness for that.

The role model is Jesus Christ, everyone else (even the apostles) are imperfect.

Even if Judas wrote something that indicated Jesus' knowledge of Judas' betrayal - this is not news. It is already accounted several times in the Holy Bible that Jesus knew of Judas' betrayal (for he knows all things) before anyone else saw the events unfold.

Zealots prefer to have a clear black-and-white hero/villain story. It motivates the masses more than something that shows the complexity of human interactions.
