Like pulling the plug on a loved one in pain struggling to live without help from machines

I'm for it. If you had a dog that was dying a slow, painful death and you insisted on keeping him alive and in agony, people would call you cruel. I'm sure my mom would have gladly taken a shot or a pill to end the suffering months sooner than it did. It should be up to the patient. I hope it's legal by the time it's my turn to go.

I wish they would just legalize this. Upon a patient request, a psychological evaluation would be done on the patient and the psychologist can write up a document with the lawyer.
The doctor could then sign or deny the patient his or her right to freedom.
Only in cases where the condition is chronic and/or terminal.
As for pulling the plug. I think hospitals should have a one week to one month limit on patients that are declared brain dead. Bread dead means that they do not have any chance of waking up. Keeping them alive is selfish for a number of reasons. I know I, personally, would want the plug pulled if I was brain dead. My organs could be passed on to people all over north America. Why should prolonging the inevitable be more important to anyone than saving lives?

I'm all for it - providing the person is terminally ill. Like end stage of cancer etc. Also for people that are on life sustaining machines and are brain dead. THAT is not living - check out the Terry Schiavo case. That was one hell of a mess - even if it was my daughter - I'd let her go with dignity. If a loved one was struggling like that - I'd give them all the med's they could have to ease their pain and just stay with them until the end.

I'm all for it. I would not want to live on a machine - pull the plug - its the most human thing to do. Our pets get a better death then us humans when it comes to that situation.

I would hope that if I'm ever in that situation my family loves me enough to let me go. Hooked to machines, unable to move or breathe or communicate - that's not living, that's just existing, and no thanks. If there's no hope of recovery to any decent quality of life, I don't want to be here.

maybe if the person (not the person's relative) signed a piece of paper saying it was ok to do so
