I have a 5 eyar old Shetland Sheepdog but her coat is not quite as pretty as it has been. I wonder if vitamins will help. I am in the process of changing her food from Iams to ____? (not sure yet)

My dobie had a dry coat along with dandruff. I started giving her a few Fish Oil gelcaps a day (1000mg) and she's looking great now. She didn't have enough oil in her coat, your's might be having the same problem. Try giving fish oil, you can also use vegetable oil(although this is more processed and the omega fatty acids in fish oil are very beneficial), olive oil or flaxseed oil. Definately get her off of Iams, I have my dobie on Wellness(premium high quality but you can't find it in most petstores), you may want to try Solid Gold. It's a very good brand and many pet stores carry it. You'll pay more than you do for Iams, but your dog will eat less b/c it's better quality with less fillers.

Shelties have double coats. Brandy sounds like she has some undercoat. Her undercoat isn't probably as thick as maximum double lined breed like Poms and Shelties, yet i think of Brandy has a double-coat. The undercoat often is gentle than the right coat.

Dont give your dog any vitamins without talking to your vet first. Vitamins that are good for one dog may not be good for yours. Also I would definately change her food from IAMS not a very good food source. Read the ingredients you will see for yourself. Good luck!!

don't give her vitamins, instead put just like a tea spoon of vegetable oil or olive oil in his food a day, and give her eggs. male shetlies usually have a better coat than the female, its just the way it is.

If you have a good quality kibble you won't need to feed supplements.

This website has GREAT information on how to pick a good kibble and keep your dog healthy and the coat healthy.

If you are feeding your dog a quality dog food you are wasting your money on vitamins and your dog is just P i s s in g it away as excess un-needed waste
