I have heard about it. I have perioral dermatitis and my dermo. was going to put me on it. I decided against it, way to many side effects for me!

Accutane is a very strong medication to treat severe acne but there are also severe side-effects. Accutane is used as a last resort by dermatologist because of its side-effects, which include damage to the liver. It is also a teratogen, a drug which causes birth defects in pregnant women. Before starting the drug and during drug treatment, doctors draw blood to monitor the health of the liver. Patients are warned of the risk and benefits of Accutane. Accutane should only be used in cases of severe acne which have not responded to other conventional treatments.

I have heard of it, had been suggested many times to go on it, but after reading the releases that I had to go through to take the stuff I decided not to.
I have had moderate to severe acne all of my life and my once dermatologist told me that this was the best option. His answer prompted me to find a different dermatologist!
I have now been on a skin care regimen for a while that works incredibly. I have 100% blemish free skin and it is rare if I even get one zit. I was put on a low dose of doxycycline antibiotic twice daily and retin-a cream for overnight. It works wonders. I would really encourage anyone facing accutane to try this route first, it is much less dangerous and there are no long term dangers to taking a low dose antibiotic sporadically.

Accutane is very high doses of Vitamin A that is stored in the liver and that storage is what keeps the acne clear for years to come. I know some have gotten great results from it. I was a bit worried about taking it myself due to the long term storage in the liver. Good luck with your decison.

Accutane is for severe acne. I knew a few kids in high school who started this stuff and it cleared them up very quickly. Its very powerful and very effective.

Yeah, I've heard of it...it's really effective, but it can be really dangerous, too. Make sure you and your doctor talk about the side effects and stuff before you decide to use it.
