Is 10 months enough time for a medium-sized wedding? How much advance notice do you need to give the photographer, dj, place of reception, etc.?

usually they say a year, but it can be done in less time. i had 9 months. you usually don't have to worry about everything like the reception and ect. until a few months b4.

I planned a 200 person, full dinner wedding in 2 weeks - but that is truly insane. You can generally plan comfortably in 6-12 months. The last wedding I planned was for 150 in 4 months - and went very smoothly.

If you are planning in 6 months or less, the first thing to do is book all of the major things right away - dj, location, dress, photographer, etc - so plan to spend a great deal of the first few weeks planning.

10 months isn't unrealistic to plan a wedding. However, I come from New Jersey and from my personal experience, everything in New Jersey is booked a year in advance if not further out so I had a 2 year engagement.. Photographer, DJ, Videographer I booked a year in advance from my wedding.. my reception hall was booked about a year and a half in advance.. It also depends what day you would like to get married on.. friday? saturday? or a sunday? saturday weddings are very popular and book fast.. friday nights or sunday during the day may be a little easier.. good luck planning!

Yes, 10 months is long enough, but go ahead and give your notice to the place of reception and ceremony, and if you know the others that you will use for the DJ, photographer, caterer, etc. then go ahead and give notice, but make a note to call every couple of month to "Check In" so there are no surprises.

I planned my wedding in 5 weeks - it's this saturday - I hope everything comes together ok - i wish i had given myself some more time but we were just ready to be married as soon as possible. We're not going overboard all the basics of cakes and centerpieces and decorations and flowers are involved. If you plan on have a large wedding i say about 9-10 months would be sufficient. For a small wedding. like my cousin had we put it together in a week - we had a lotta help from the family

I think 10 months might be enough time...but I would start calling the reception halls and get that taken care of. I would also try to book the photographer, the DJ, and the church. Try to get the main things for that day booked now...because things are going to be booked well in advance.

I wish you the best of luck in your future with your honey.

10 months is fine. i did mine in a year. vendors need 30-60 days notice. the closer you get the more they will charge. book your vendors as soon as possible. then leave the little things to the end. you don't want to be stressing over a photographer or food a month before. make a list of songs you like and give that to the DJ. you can book him 2-3 months before hand, just make sure he has all the music you asked for and he know exactly when you want it played. lists are you friend. good luck

to a certain extent it depends on what sort of celebration you wish to have; availability of chosen celebrant; ceremony /reception venue;photographer etc
also what day of the week you wish to have the wedding
as a lot of the other responses state people arrange their weddings in various time frames ; the size of the wedding does not matter as much as the other things for a time frame.
My daughter organised hers in 5 weeks - partly because here in Australia you have to give 1 calender month & 1 days notice to the relevant authorities of your intent to marry - or I think she may have done it sooner
when i married about 30years ago - you only had to give 7 days notice- we gave 10- because we decided on the Wednesday before Easter to get married the following weekend & our families were coming from other towns - we only had immediate family - 15people
so really 10months should be ample time

Ten months is plenty enough of time. Usually when booking for your DJ's, Reception Hall & etc. you will have to put down a deposit...We went and met with a lady concerning renting the facilities and on our wedding date it had been booked for a whole year. CONGRADULATIONS!!!!

That should be plenty of time...the usual is 12 months, but things can be planned in as little as 5 months-although I son't recommend it!! Reception sites, depending on their demand, can book as many as 18 months...it usually isn't thta much of a problem though. Most vendors like to have 6-8 months, again depending on demand.

I planned mine in 6 months. I started in the beginning of December and our wedding was at the end of May.
