Nepeta is a genus of about 250 species of flowering plants in the family Lamiaceae. The members of this group are known as catnips or catmints (wikipedia).

catnip is like weed for cats. my cat loves it too.

i have no idea... but one of my cats rolls in it and gets aggresive, another one just eats it! and the little one who just over a year old has no idea why the other 2 are going nuts... he just not interested in it..
i think it gives some sort of sexual response,,

my cat loves it, but it is too string for her, I don't give it to her becasue it makes her crazy. I would like to know the science too

it has a strong scent to it i think its got special herbs in it in which cats go for
