I think it is because you worded it as "where can I get" instead of "I can't find". If you said I can't find camouflage pants I think your first responses would have been different. the way you worded it does suggest you are asking for help in finding camouflage pants.
jokes are all about wording and timing. I don't know anyone who has not messed up a joke before, including me. sorry to get so technical on you. Please don't hate me for telling you, it is not meant as a attack on your joke. it is only an observation. I seen another joke you had up and laughed till I cried.

I recently posted this joke:

Hi, E-Bay sells them but they are not cheap and there is a postage charge, of course. I have an Army Surplus Store nearby too. Try the Yellow Pages too. Goodluck.
