I am a U.N. peace keeping officer, with fruit salad and three tours of duty. Europeans have been battling the Muslims for over 600 years and we were in peace with them for 350 years, why can't troopers listen to friendly advice ?

Obviously you have valuable experience that would help in the current conflict.

US troops should be open to hearing other perspectives.

However, the real problem is NOT with the troops, it's with the President who put them in Iraq in the first place, and who fails to give them the support to do their job right.

It's the President who really should have listened to the other countries in the UN years ago, who said give the weapons inspectors time to do their job. But no, he had to invade, and there were no wmds.

Please don't blame the US troops - they are doing the best they can under the circumstances. Blame the Americans for electing Bush again, and blame bush for not listening to the experience of other countries.

Now that we have voted in a Democratic congress and senate, things will change rapidly.

I will answer everything except the fruit salad part.....

I have been deployed, done my my thing, and tried to do what was right. Bottom line I took an oath.

On the other side of the picture (civilian and veteran speaking) - I am embarrassed by our leadership. I didn't vote for him the first time, nor the second. I certainly don't have a problem with people voicing their opinion of him. I saw a lot of useless death on both sides of this conflict. To be honest it all boils down to one thing....Ignorance.

,Do you watch the news, your question is sad and thank god you don't live here. They are in the battle zone and doing their duty Bush is their chief, and they will do as told, they don't want to be there but is their job and they will stay until it is done. You have done nothing for this country, probably never will. Ask about our loved ones huge mistake, you have no clue, yes are kids go off to fight, we pray every night they come home, step off this country you can never win being a fool and America is no fool

It is not the US military that cannot listen to the "friendly advice" it is our government. Even the soliders are not allowed to talk against the President...by law.
The middle east have been battling each other for centuries and for some reason the government cant seem to understand that our military just going in is not going to change their ways of thinking.
Too bad Bush cannot just talk to them and actually listen.

maybe because you're calling them troopers (troopers?)
you're not a terrorist, but get over the fact they don't think so highly of you
from your email I say the problem is the delivery of the message

yea, and we have see just how ineffective European 'peacekeeping' was in the Balkans.

We look at your operations, note exactly how you screwed them up and ensure that we do not make those mistakes.

BTW - friendly advice is not something we have gotten from Europeans in decades. Demands, arrogance and insults - yes.

Europeans are not in any way 'friends' of the US.

Fruit salad? Is that something to do with being gay? Just kidding. I don't think the US aspires to end up like Europe, therefore, the methods the Europeans used will not work for us.

I am a Disabled Veteran, and I go by what my Commander in Chief says. I do not bash my leader, I protect the rights of my country, and my fellow citizens, good, or bad.
And what does fruit salad have to do with your question?

They were a lot more receptive today for some reason!

Muslims have been there forever, and here we are, 200 years old telling evryone what we want! We want your oil, we want your labor, we want we want!! Well, they are pretty formidable if you aren't planning to use nukes, and if you do that you get everyone, including us!

Many here think they are backwards! They aren't, they are smart. Very few in this country could survive with what they have to survive on!
