Apart from their patients and can you describe how, in each case they do this

this sounds like a homework question but what the hell... 1. the insurance company. by running the least amount of test possible and prescribing generic meds they keep costs down and 2. The Drug companies, alot of times if a doc prescribes a certain med, for something rather than one just as good, that drug company might see that the doc gets a lil kick back

Drug Companies is one of them. I know this because I used to work in a doctor's office. Every week, a drug rep would bring us a catered lunch and would do a sales pitch to the docs to convince them to prescribe their drug. They would also bring free merchandise like pens, notepads, hand lotion, backpacks, etc. The more often they come in, the better relationship they develop with the docs, and the more willing a doc might be to prescribe that particular drug versus a competitor's.

the AMA - a group of doctors that lobbies. Doctors operate in the interests of doctors. To preserve their priviledges to practice medicine, etc.
