He swears up and down it's a 5.0 and I know for fact that stock is 4.6, as I have a 3.8 V6. Other people support his claim and some support mine. Where can I find the information to shut his narcissistic mouth? For any help, thank you all.

That's what I told him. He said it's stock. No such thing as a stock 5 in a '04. He's simply a liar. :-) I just wanna prove it.

If I check the engine, where do I look for engine size? Is it stamped anywhere or anything?

There should be a sticker on the on the fan shroud or around the front of the hood opening that says what the size of the engine is. It will also give the set-up of the belt.

In addition. The 8th digit of his VIN will tell you what engine came stock in the vehicle. As was said previously, any Ford Dealer will be able to show you printed materials....but in short here are the facts. If that number is a:

"6" his vehicle came stock with a 3.9L V6 with 190HP
"R" his vehicle came stock with a 4.6L Dual Overhead Cam "Ram Air" V8. Which means he has a Mustang Mach 1 with 305HP.
"X" his vehicle came stock with a 4.6L Single Overhead Cam V8 with 260HP.
"Y" his vehicle came stock with a 4.6L Dual Overhead Cam Supercharged V8. Which means he has a Mustang Cobra with 390HP.

As was said previously, Ford did not offer a 5.0L on a 2004 Mustang.

By the way, check the 10th digit of his VIN for the accurate MODEL year of his vehicle. It should be a "4" for "2004".

Hope this helps.

I too have a mustang, I'm into the old schools though. First thing I would do, which you might have done already is go straight to the source, check the engine. Not to side with your friend but its most likely the 5.0 since its GT. For confirmation there's a number of online sites to go to, such as Ford. Or any mustang forums.

The 1995 and earlier F-Body engines weren't even 5.0L of displacement, if you do the calculations to get the actual displacement. They were something like 4.8. Ford rounded up. Unless he had the block bored and machined the block and cylinder head to change the stroke, there's no way he's at an actual 5.0L of displacement.

The 2004 GT Premium Convertible with a standard engine's specifications are as follows;

4.6L 260 hp V8
260 HP @ 5250 RPM
302 LB/FT Torque @ 4000 RPM

The Cobra of that year wasn't even a 5.0.

It's usually not stamped. Sometimes it is. My engine has the model and displacement on the valve cover. My boyfriend's valve cover says simply "Nissan Twin Cam 16 Valve" I believe. The displacement is calculated Displacement = pi ÷ 4 x bore2 x stroke x cylinders, then multiply by .016 to get liters.

After searching for images of the 2004 GT motor, the best I've found was "V8 32 Valve" on the valve covers.

Your best bet, the next time he puffs his feathers about a 5.0, is to ask him who did the engine work.

There is no such thing as a Mustang that is a V6 and a GT. No V6 is a GT and All GT's have a V8

It's not possible. A 5.0 is what's in my mustang and it's a 1989.
