No. Most definately not! A friend of mine came here to the UK with ID card only and through Heathrow and I was with him
You don't need passport to travel in the EU if you have an ID card

This only applies for EU nationals.

For most people, yes. And of course for some countries you need a visa. However, I believe that some European nationals, including the French, can get in on an identity card.

Your papers will be checked before you get onto the plane or ship. One of the things the UK Government did a couple of years ago in response to terrorism and illegal immigration problems was to set up passport controls in ports like Calais instead of just checking when you get to England.

It is not like going from France to Belgium or Germany!

Oh, with the help of ways, specific they do verify the passports on the border. the two countries accomplish that through fact the united kingdom isn't component of the Schengen section. And good now with France being on terrorist pink alert they're careful approximately human beings attempting to sneak in. not incredibly worth it.

the only country you do not require a passport to travel to is Ireland from the UK and return. I have got back from France without showing passport but it is unusual, it you look like you are from a poor country they will stop you.

If you are French you only need your identity card... the same as all EU nationals, except the Brits who need a passport because we don't have identity cards
