If you really want one don't let others put you off. The design really should mean something to you.I personally love tigers and elephants and frogs!!!! Will be getting my four kids' name in chinese characters around my foot and ankle area.
Doesn't matter if no one else understands it as long as you do. I am getting my first one this year and I am 38! I 've waited for twenty years.
Covering up for work is a great idea. But again your choice depending on what you get done.
Definitely don't do it on a whim and find the best artist and cleanest place (check it out carefully). you can find. I have stopped people with tattoos and asked them about theirs. Most are ready and willing to talk to you.
So take care and good luck.

The best idea is to pick something that you really like. Remember that the tattoo is going on your body and you have to be willing to wake up to it every day of the rest of your life. (By the way, I do have a tat, so I understand.)

Now having said all that....

1) You could get musical notes.

2) Find your favorite song in the whole wide world and pick a great line from the song as your tat.

3) You could do a tat of an instrument.

Other ideas...
Go to a good tattoo place a flip through the art books to see if anything jumps off the page and says tattoo me on your body.

Go to google images and type in music for the search and see what pictures come up that you might be interested in.

Go to a local tattoo place and talk with one of the tattoo guys/girls. Often times in addition to being able to tattoo these people are amazing artists who might be able to draw you something that you would be able to live with.

Hope all of this helps. Good luck with getting the tat. :)

Okay, well, if you have to ask, I'd consider waiting.

Tattoos should be very personal. They should have a profound meaning to you. They should either portay, express, or symbolize you, something you love, or something about you. Not thinking out a tattoo, or other people telling you what to get is one of the fastest ways to regret. Choose the design by thnking of you, and not necissarily intersts, but stuff that is YOU. What are your motives for a tattoo? Is to be cool, or impress, if so, I'd reconcider.

As you might notice, many people hate and frown upon tattoos, and many businesses can turn you down because of them. So choose a spot that you can show it, but also easily cover it up. That is important because you lose a lot of job opportunties with tattoos, unfortunately.

Also, like some people so rudely put it, the aging factor. Keep in mind that yes, your body ages, and your tattoo will along with it. Tattoos are a life time commitment, so don't rush it, and put a lot of thought into it... keep that in mind. if you're getting it for the right reasons, you shouln't mind... but i don't know you..

If you have a better reason that vanity to get a tattoos, than go for it after you research risks, the process, and a good shop and artist to get it done at. This is very important, which most do not realize or do.

A good way to help decide on a design is going into a good tattoo shop, and talk to an artist about what you want. If you tell them things you are interested in(like music), and what you were considering, they should help you come up with the perfect design for you!

The best way to get the design you want after you decide on something, is to have the artist you intend to do it draw it up custom for you. This is their job, and most are very artists and creative and should be able to fully satisfy you.. The best way is going to your professional artist and talking to them. they'll even quote you on the price they'd do it for.. they can help you out, and also answer any questions you may have. Don't be shy, we're not scary!

You have the rest of your life to get one, no rush, think it through. Do research. I promise it'll be better if you do...but if you go to BME for ideas, don't steal tattoos, work from them, but don't take someone else's artwork!

message if you have any more questions..if you want..

2 ideas. my sister has music notes and a star on the top of her foot. here is another one but its not about music. there is some tattoo that is a japanese symbol and it has a line going through it of a color of choice. then it has little squares or areas in side that you have filled in when u get married, have children... just important events in your life. when you get it, just keep in mind that if you have a professional job or job that a tattoo would be bad showing or bad for ur reputation, get it where it can be covered. make sure you put lots of sunscreen on it also.

YES First a tat will be with you forever, so find something "meaningful" not fancy or fadish like lower back tats. Some look good but it's not really a good place for one.
Put somewhere you can cover it for work.
Finally, perhaps cover art of an album from a song that really impacted you positivly. Don't just copy the art, use it to inspire a unique peice and then work with an artist to perfect it.
This will take some time, but don't get a tat on a whim, it will be with you for as long as you are in your skin.
Good Luck :)

A single stylized music note can be beautiful. Its smart of you to give it some good thought before jumping into something-anything. If you want to get a tattoo..... go for it!!!!

Think about something that you will like always. If you are 16 will you still like it at 40? Don't have a tattoo that is some that is popular now but will be outdated in a few years.

Just to warn you, it's addictive so once you start you won't want to stop. Think of something that means a lot to you and mix it in with music such as the music notes, something that you feel passionate about other than music and use it together. You're going to have to live with this for the rest of your life (unless you lazer it off) so make sure that it means something to you.

i suggest you really think about what you will put on your body and where. When I was 19 years old, I got a set of dolphins around my belly button and now 10 years later I hate it. I wish I got something more special to me, something that wasn't so generic. And I wish I chosen another spot because I want to get another tattoo now will look stupid (for me) mixing it with the one I already have.

FYI- please don't get a tattoo on your lower back. It looks very trashy and people will judge you for it. If you are planning to have a good job one day try to get it at a place where you can cover it up for work.

The first suggestion I have is to put the tattoo somewhere you don't have to look at it everyday... Like your back... Ask the tattoo artist to draw something up for you. The best tattoo is something you've come up with and had made especially for you... It will hold more meaning, since it will be permanent. Music notes intertwined your astrological sign might be good.
