I would suggest you go to a local culinary school and understand the training etc. that you need to start a business. It takes alot of hard work, patience and dedication. People will buy anything, everyone has a different opinion and one may not like your work but someone else will. Don't jump in too fast, I suggest you take a course and volunteer at a local bakery to get a feel of what your getting into. I've seen cakes go for as much as 10, 000 once you enter the business you'll get a feel for the type of cakes you design and the price point you feel will be accepted by patrons. All and all, good luck.

Yes- but you have to have a good product and market-market-market. Try providing fancy tea cakes at ladies suppers to gain reputation, as well as using the wedding cake recipe in small cakes to provide as samples at wedding shows. Dessert catering is becoming fashionable again and you can capitalize on that as well. Also cross marketing is a good idea-combine efforts with a local coffee shop to get your treats out there or provide your services to an upscale bridal shoppe as a private party show caterer - supply some luscious teas and cakes with fresh fruit and sparkling cider mimosas (so no one gets tipsy and spills on the gowns). Good Luck!

They sure will buy them, but you have to get hooked up with a good wedding planner who will reccommend your cakes above anyone else's.

I concur. There are definately people that will buy them. You just have to find the market for them and then market to them.
