Even at this time of year it can get very cold at night, so make sure you have suitable sleeping bags, wind and water proof jackets and trousers, proper hiking boots, thick socks etc. Take plasters in case of blisters. ALWAYS take a map and compass, and make sure you know how to use them properly. Make sure you have plenty fuel for your stove. Look into what tyoes of food you want to take, light, dried stuff is good, ie cheesy pasta, etc. Nuts and chocolate are great energy giving snacks. Pack only the things you need or your pack will too be heavy and spoil your walk, talk to an experienced walker or read up a bit before you go. Make sure you know how to put your tent up, practice at home first so its not a struggle in the wind or the dark. Take waterproof bivouac bags, a whistle and torch. If you can stay dry and warm and have got the right equipment and safety equipment with you you should have a great time. But I would definitely advise you to speak to someone experience or even ask the staff in your local outdoor store for advice. I know it sounds horrible but people have died out on the scottish hills even in the middle of summer because of ignorance - not having the right equipment and knowing how to use it properly. Finally, remember to tell someone your route and expected time of return so the police and mountain rescue can be contacted if something goes wrong. Leave a route map with that person and don't stray off your planned route. You have plenty time to plan your walk and practice with your equipment, so use it wisely, and make sure you are nice and fit so you can enjoy the magnificent scenery and not pass out from exhaustion!! Have a great time.

It's going to be extremely cold and wet so take extra clothing and backup supplies because it can become treacherous and you could become stuck there if the weather is bad. Just remember to keep a source of heat, plenty of food and plenty of clothing and you should be ok, also put any spare food away otherwise small animals come by and wreak havoc

wear in any new boots several weeks before you go.

Slow down when chatting to locals; most of them aren't caffinated to the eyeballs like town dudes.

Agree everytime they point out that there's no where like "this place" even if your up to your head in midgz? and cows muck.

Learn the name of atleast 2 or 3 stars etc just to impress or even keep up with any boffins you happen to be with, and never confuse Blackpool illuminations with the Northern Lights.

Enjoy

Take water wings, it rains - a lot! And insect repellent, when it's not raining there's midges - lots and lots of midges. Beautiful country though - when you can see it through the low cloud! lol
