I used to jog for 30 minutes before I lifed weights and it helped me loosen up and I felt that I lifed weights better after jogging. I was wondering what every one else felt about it. My friend says it's not good.

Your friend is somewhat right, depending on your goal. If you're looking to build just endurance than jogging or any other type of moderate to strenuous exercise will get you there. But if looking to build mass or strength than jogging especially before working out will defeat that purpose. If you're looking to warm-up for lifting, jog for about 5 to 10 min. this is what's called a general warm-up. Next progress to a semi-specific warm-up which includes movements that will somewhat mimic your lifting moves(i.e.walking lunge with upper-body twist.) And finally you will come to the specific warm-up which basically equates to lifting a lighter weight before moving on to the heavier stuff. So avoid jogging or any other endurance type exercise before lifting if you want to build, and then go for only about 20-30 min. If you're not worried about building you can do the endurance stuff before or after weight training.

I agree with you. I ALWAYS do my running before I lift. You need less stamina to lift weights. Also, when you lift, you are, in effect, tearing muscle. Do you want to run on muscles that need the time to rebuild? Sometimes, after lifting, I will do a light jog for about a mile, just to loosen the muscle. Then a good amount of stretching.
