I am not sure where you are getting your statistics from but you are incorrect in you assumptions. America has a higher GDP which makes it a wealthier nation, however it has massive debt, on going deficits which only prove to increase debt. There is also a higher unemployment rate in the USA as well as a higher percentage of the population living below the poverty line.
Canada was settled jointly by the British and the French, thus has two official languages, English and French as well as large French speaking areas.
The salaries in the USA are not necessarily a lot higher. Rather there is a more unequal distribution of wealth resulting in a more define economic hierarchy.
Finally, Canada is a heavily multi cultural nation. Canada prides itself on being a menagerie of people and culture. In fact Canada is only able to sustain it's population by means of immigration. Which has resulted in a very diverse nation.
I am not to sure what your definition is of civilized. However Canada has lower crime rates per capita. Has a higher percentage of post secondary educationed citizens. Donates more per capita to foreign aid. Do if being an educated non violent globally aware nation means you are unsophisticated then I guess Canada is guilty as charged.

Actually Canada is wealthier as we have more natural resources than the US. Salaries are pretty much equivalent. Prices are no different for things. I loaf of bread cost about 1.25 US and 1.25 CAN. Since each citizen is paid in their own currency a loaf of bread cost the same.
Both countries were populated by the British.
We are different from the US because we make an effort to unite. Our history was based on how to build our country together (railroads to link provinces) learning to settle differences to unite colonies together to form one larger one to protect ourselves from the Americans. We look to achieve a settlement rather than demanding an ultimatum.

Sounds like you've never been to Canada. Visit Toronto or Vancouver sometime and you'll quickly find out that whites are not so predominant and that Canada is also a "melting pot of nations". Us isn't wealthier, it's national debt is about 3 trillion dollars; Canada's national debt is about 30 billion dollars. More civilized? Give me a break. Statistics show there's way more crime in US than Canada, especially murders and other violent crimes. So what's your definition of civilized? Our form of government is a copy of the British government, true, but neither our government nor that of US seems to be doing a very good job. Canada at least has free universal health care, US doesn't. Prescription drugs are way cheaper in Canada than in US. Prices aren't really cheaper in US, we're simply taxed more in Canada. Unemployment is lower in Canada than US, so is inflation.

I don't mean to turn this into a debate about which country's better but.....How is America more civilized than Canada? You say it as if we eat nothing but hte bark off trees and eat raw meats. Americans are war-mongers that care nothing more than to bomb neutral countries using pathetic excuses like to get weopons of mass destruction and to boss the world arround. Canada is home to more different cultures than the US. and when you see american prices lower, it's just because it's different currency! if the prices were turned to canadian, it would be the same price. Sheesh, those Republicans really got to the heads of many americans including you.

Are you kidding me? Canada is so much better than the US. Canada...
1)...is a peaceful nation with no enemies, good international relationships (including with Cuba)
2)...has no abortion laws whatsoever, abortion is legal, without restriction. But the rate of abortions in the country is relatively low.
3)...in many provinces, recognizes and fully accepts gay marriage as a legal institution, even for immigration purposes.
4)...has socialized medicine that Canadians report satisfaction with. No Canadian goes without health care.
5)...has no death penalty.
6)... has tough gun control laws, and, it just so happens, a murder rate about three times lower than that in U.S.
7)...has a general maternity leave of one year off for mothers, at 80 percent of their salary.
8)... has a more balanced education system, where schools in poor areas deliver the same quality of education as those in wealthy locales.
You've never been to Canada have you?

Your generalizations about Canada and misinformed and ignorant. You need to realize that Canada is a great nation and perhaps "got it" more than the US did in the formative days. Canada fosters more individualism, personal freedom, government sponsored health and welfare programs than the US.
All Canadian citizens have health coverage furnished through the government. The US is walking a terrible plank in regard to health care of its citizens.
Canadians are higher paid, better educated and more cosmopolitan than their US counterparts, housing is better and government programs are better too.
Women and minorities have a much better role in government and in life in Canada than they do in the US.
There is very little discrimination in Canada and it is not tolerated by citizens or the government.
The Canadian government has top notch tourism and arts programs.

I've travelled to both, and all I can say is that Canada is just so much better, in all ways I can think of - and Canadians aren't as brash as many Americans - don't know all the statistics, but in my opinion, Canada is far superior, and you feel much safer there.

Myself - a Canadian married to US citizen. Me and my wife have seen both countries and the differences you count are correct.
The difference stems in the fact that America follows strong capitalist based economic policies and has a much much larger industrial infrastructure setup. Canada is not big on any industry.
Canadians have a population that is approximately 1/10th the American population. And our policies are socialist based.
