Cheating is all a matter of perspective. Basically, I think cheating is doing ANYTHING that you wouldn't want your significant other doing. And I think almost ALL of us have done this...

Cheating may best be defined as an understanding that has been ignored for whatever reason. One can cheat on tests in school for instance. I don't ever remember voicing my agreement that I would not cheat on tests, yet I never did. It was understood that this was an offense and was punishable in some form.

If you are referring to relationship infidelity, "sangreal" has a fantastic answer here that sums it all up. But I'll put my two cents in anyway. :-)

If you and your partner believe that it's OK to swing, then a physical encounter outside of your relationship doesn't sound like cheating. If, however, you both agree to only swing together and one of you plays without your established partner - I would think that is considered cheating.

The usual thoughts probably apply here, though:
If you feel uncomfortable about it, it's probably something that either you consider to be cheating, or you believe your partner considers cheating.

Cheating is anything that you would not want your other doing. Within means though. Talking to someone else is not cheating of course, but kissing, touching, ect. I do believe that it is a agreement between each other. Also if you feel guilty about it then it might be cheating. As for me I have never cheated. It isn't worth it to hurt somebody.

Cheating is acting on something you know isn't right. If you think it and don't act on it and actually don't do it then it's not cheating. Knowing what is right and wrong. In a commitment with someone everything is cheating outside your devotion to that one person.

well I don't think you can "cookie cut" what it is, but people know when they're doing wrong

the obvious is having an physical affair,

I believe certain conduct on chat lines, conversation, and sneaking to have an ad on single and adult web sites is betrayal and its one step away from an affair, thus I see that as a form of cheating
