I think dogs have a sense of taste... but don't take my word for it. Ask your dogs.
This may sound silly, but try changing up the food every so often. You'll learn pretty quickly what they'll eat and what they won't eat. You can narrow it down to the food they like (they'll eat most of it) and the food they love (they'll eat all of it).
p.s. ignore the other insults. your husband isn't stupid or mis-informed. He's just a guy.
My wife leaves the TV on for her Schnauzer. She swears he likes to watch lassie and Mr. Ed. I think it's silly but it's her dog and she doesn't care what I say about it... she still leaves the TV on for him.

Tell him you heard that husbands have no sense of taste and feed him spam. Well of course they have a sense of taste and they have preferences in taste. That is why they will not eat some things and even spit some things out. Also, what you feed your dog can affect their health just like eating junk food and nothing else affects a human's health. A good quality of dog food can make all the difference in coat, appearance and physical health. Dogs love "treats" and they will have preferences for different kinds because they do have a sense of taste and smell.

Yes, they taste. However their smelling stuff has a lot to do with taste. Just like with people, that's why when you have a cold food doesn't taste right, you can't smell it. Yes, you should care what you feed your dog for your dogs health sake. Our pets need quality pet food. Read the ingredients list and learn what the stuff on there is and what it does (or does not do) to/for our pets. A quick pet food 101. If the pet food contains corn/corn products or by products it is a poor quality food. Do not pay attention to advertising, they all say there food is great. Corn is a filler that can trigger skin problems. (allergies, skin problems, itching and excessive shedding) By products is anything from an animal not fit for human consumption, including cancerous tissue. Quality foods have meat as the first ingredient. California Natural, Solid Gold, Innova and Merrick are a few of the best brands available. Your husband is half right. Of course you shouldnt feed him a lot of unhealthy human food, but dont only limit him to his dog food. Sometimes you can give him dinner scraps. But yuo are mostly right. Your dog does have a sense of taste. They taste mostly with their noses. But they still are like humans and have a small sense of taste. Compromise with your husband. I am only a kid, but i know a lo t about relationships and pets. I hope you will take this advice and not under estimate the fact that i am a kid.

Dogs have a sense of taste and you should feed them what you think they will like. We tend to think that they will like more meat tasting type foods, but they may like veggies just as much. I do know that it is not good to switch they brand of food you feed them because they are different formulas. It may give them some bowel problems till they get us to the new brand of food.

Dogs have a keen sense of smell, but not necessarily taste. What smells good to them "tastes" good to them. Dogs actually do not care what they eat IF they will eat it. Give them the same food day after day and they are fine..they eat when they are hungary...they are NOT gormets and do NOT appreciate all the stuff you see on TV...they do not care about the color of the food. Pedigree is as good as any other, Purina dog chow is formulated with dogs metabolism as a goal...the fancy, high priced stuff is a waste of money in most cases...dogs do NOT appreciate food as we do.

Remember the Fred Flintstone episode where Wilma served Fred's friends dogfood as hors d'hourves?? If not, its a classic and hilarious!! It was the men, (not the dogs) who didnt notice the difference.
p.s. my dog and most that I know, can carefully pick around the dog food and table scraps when both are placed in their dog bowls. I have seen dogs work dilligently like detectives to get every peice of table food, and leave every bit of dog food in that bowl!!
What is your husbands source of info?

dogs have a stronger sense of taste than we do. their sense of smell is stronger and thats how most mammals taste( i think its like 80% or so of what we taste is through our sense of smell). your husband has no idea of what hes talking about. dogs have 5 senses just like you and me. you're right!

thats a load of BS. my dog LOVES certain things, and refuses to eat others. i say that proves a sense of taste. give my dog a strawberry, she spits in on the floor and walk away. a carrot and she will stand there waiting for the next one.
