i did... we have been together now for a year... and it has been wonderful. I couldn't ask for a better person. On line allows you to screen the people you talk to with out ever having to met them. I know that a lot of guys that i had spoken to in the past were kind of crazy... or just plain boring... or had no intelligence what so ever. It allowed me to get to know that person more in depth then i probably would have if i had met him elsewhere.

I actually know a few people who have struck it lucky online.
One guy is going to Canada next week to try living with a woman he met from Toronto for 6 months. He's very excited about the whole thing and he's all young again.
I have a friend who got married through meeting someone online. I put an online card game on her computer and she played for a while, eventually played against this man and they got along really well. They became online cards partners and then decided to meet offline. This led to that and that led to marriage and they have a fabulous three year old son and a great relationship!
I know other people who have dated people online and met them offline with all degrees of results. I know of another that ended in marriage, but I don't remember the details.
My friends here use certain chat sites to link up with girls who live nearby to go out with them.
Lastly, I myself met a really lovely girl from England and we get along great online. She came over on holiday for a week. We got on like a house on fire and it was really great. We didn't find love, but we did find a very special moment for ourselves that we wouldn't have had if we had simply hooked up in a bar or any of the other usual places.
I find that meeting people online lets you look first at all the other things in a person you want to be attached to.
