My 9-year-old daughter plays 'down' to a younger age group. She's more interested in LPS, than Barbie; and will watch Dora over Raven. I worry that the kids at school will make fun of her for this. Is this normal? Is this OKAY? Any suggestions to bring her up to a grade 4 level of entertainment?

Nowadays I wouldn't really worry just yet. My 13 yr old, loves tinkerbell and stuffed animals. 9 is a hard age too. I remember having a hard time finding age appropriate stuff for her. Plenty of things to find for little kids and teens but not much for ages 7 - 11. Shoot, even I like playing with my 5 year olds LPS collection. They are so cute.

I never liked Barbies, so I would take LPS over that anyday (even though i have no idea what lps is) and I would rather watch Blues Clues (wont say dora cause i hate dora) over watching Raven cause I hate Raven. Maybe she just doesnt like those certain things that you think that she should. It's not that she isnt smart enough to watch those shoes. It's just her taste.

Your daughter gets to be a kid for such a short time, let her be one. She has plenty of time to be grown-up. My daughter is the same way. She is 12, in 7th grade and she and her friend come home everyday and play. They role play characters from their new favorite anime, making up stores and characters. They play with beanie babies. Sometimes they pretend they are cats or dragons. Both are doing well in school, A's and B's. My daughter is in Algebra I and an honors English/social studies block.

Enjoy the fact that you have a little girl. My friend's daughter also, 12 just got smacked at the bus stop by another 12 year old girl. This girl invites boys over when she is supposed to be babysitting, hits her parents, and is an emo who is a cutter. Make sure your daughter has friends at school and in the neighborhood who like the same thins she does and let her enjoy childhood:)

I have no idea what LPS is. They make clothes and Dora things for girls your daughter's age. That shows that there are people out there at that age that buy them. My nine year old nephew likes to watch Diego, no difference there. Enjoy this time with her. Trust me, she's going to grow up soon enough.

Listen up. You should be so happy your LITTLE GIRL IS STILL A LITTLE GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Do you realize only a few years ago I heard of a 9 year old girl in Maryland that was pregnant???????? she lost the baby after a couple of months but still I think you see my point. Who's to say what is 4th grade entertainment? Please don't rush her into growing up, believe me they do that way too soon and too fast. My 11 year old daughter still likes LPS and I'm glad. I hope this makes you feel better, it did me. Keep smiling and enjoy her childhood.

I would just be happy that she is enjoying these activities over boys. There were two 11 year old girls in my hometown pregnant last year. I know that seems like an insane age, but it happened. So be happy she is into Dora and not into growing up way to fast.

Enjoy that it isn't the other way around. She isn't growing up too fast. My 13 still plays with Brats dolls and watches Elmo and Winnie the Pooh with my 2 year old. My daughter has ADHD so is naturally immature. Let your daughter have younger friends-she may fit in better.

Kids develop at different rates. Unfortunately, other kids have their own idea about what is acceptable play and what isn't. I would bolster her self esteem and praise her for making her own choices rather than having her choice dictated by what her friends decide is appropriate. That will serve her better in her teen years than feeling that she has to follow the crowd.

My daughter never cared for Barbies...she played with radio control cars and leggos. Your daughter is fine leave her alone let her enjoy being a kid. What is a "grade 4 level" anyway? Who cares?
