We recently had it put on a ballot to put into effect the required registration of our (my county's) dogs. Though it was voted against, I, and many others, feel it is still very much needed. There are people being bitten and attacked. Nothing can be done to take the dogs off the streets b/c there are no leash laws or anything. So, what are some other steps that we can take? Are there organizations out there that can help us? What do we do next?

If your government won't help, try animal protection societies such as the Humane Society, They may be able to help. In our county the Sheriff's Dept is involved with animal control & animal protection. If they can't help at least they can point you to someone who can.

Well, every place should have a leash law, and almost all do. But what good are they when they are never enforced?

Registration is a whole other thing and are mostly just used to make sure you are not over your local dog limit law.

I would fight a registration law, they are worthless and will put my dogs on animal controls radar. But a leash law WOULD be a good thing, if only AC would bother to enforce it.

Your county has spoken on the topic of the leash regulation, so there is not any longer something you're able to do approximately that till the subsequent election comes around and additionally you could attempt returned. precise now, you could concentration on the actual difficulty - the dogs assaults. while a dogs assaults somebody, the owner could be prosecuted and sued for damages. you could additionally foyer to strengthen the superb and/or reformatory time for this offense. severe outcomes could have a deterring result. of direction that isn't a desirable answer, yet i'm unsure there is any desirable answer. Leash regulations are very confusing to enforce. I stay in a city that does have leash regulations, yet I see this regulation broken a minimum of a dozen situations each week. in case you're walking your dogs by a woodland by a park, or on a residential street, you're no longer very possibly to run right into a police officer, maximum of people merely take the possibility. It scares the heck out of me once I take my young ones for a stroll interior the park and we come for the time of a huge dogs off his leash. i attempt to avert getting too close, yet in some situations you do no see them till it is merely too overdue. stable success which includes your stable artwork!

Contact your state senators. Get a petition, call your local dog shelters, the newspapers, anyone who will listen & help with the fight.
Good luck
