We're proud of the fact that we can be asked about ANY topic from our kids and still openly discuss it as a family...

Our funniest moment about this actually came from Mom:

One night, over dinner, she said, " I read this article online today about school kids and sex... *addressing our two teenage daughters* ...so, do you guys know what a 'bl0w job' is?"

*horrified stares from around table, as the 9yr old son eats his dinner, clueless...*

It still cracks us up!

My daughter is 4 ... and she's starting to notice her skin color is a little different from other kids at school ... she's Black, White, American Indian & Japanese ... it's kinda hard to explain races to a 4 year old ... it's even harder to hear her say things like ..... " I want my skin to look like yours mommy " ... " why can't I look like Molly " ... my 8 yr old white as rice little cousin ... we live in a little city & it's not too diverse here ... growing up I think I only knew a few black kids ... it's a lot harder than I though it was going to be ... !

It's something that really bothers me to .. I don't know how to answer her - knowing when I was younger I always wanted to be that little cute white girl with blonde hair & blue eyes ... it's going to take time but I just keep telling her - nobody's skin color is the same ... and point out other family members .. see Grandma Nana is a little lighter than me - but Grandpa Dave has darker skin ... !

I just want my daughter to feel normal and fit in with others ... I don't want her worrying about her skin color - or why her hair is curly and mine is straight ... it's hard but I guess the only way to learn is live ... one day at a time ... !

My son is only a year old, so no tough questions out of him.... YET. However, my sister told me that she heard from a friend of hers about a 9y/o girl who had asked her mother what sperm tasted like while they were doing dishes together. Now THAT must have been a tough one to answer!!!

My daughter came home from 7th grade wanting to know what masturbation was. I thought for a minute, deciding if I should really tell her or not, and then said, "It's like having sex with yourself." She was happy with that answer and walked away. LOL

My 4 yr old granddaughter wanted to know how babies got into mommys bellies. That was tuff to tell a 4 yr old without going into to much detail.

About death. I answered right away. I remember when I asked that question and I think I was 6 and it shocked me that people die.
