Oh yes they still occur! Missionaries go into an area, bring food and meds, and things to make life easier. They say this is from Jesus, and join his religion to show how happy you are, and how thankful you are. Once all are well into the religion---away go the missionaries to another area, and forget about these people. They have ruined their culture and way of living, and suddenly leave them to fiend for themselves. It is awful!

I find it to be irresponsible and manipulative. People like the Christian children's fund really get to me because they go on a mission to save children from disease and famine but only do so with the goal of winning them as converts.

I view it as a form of modren slavery. They take native people out of their natural environment, force them to live and work on a church owned plantation, force them to give up their way of life, sell the former homes to developers, ranchers, loggers, miners, who exploit the women, and claim they are saving their souls while they give them all kinds of new diseases that destroy the native population. If that is christianity, shoot me now.
